This invention relates to screens especially adapted to afford efiicient protection against insects either While sleeping or taking a sunbath, and has for the primary object the provision of a collapsible device which when extended will provide room for one or more persons while in a reclining position and will permit easy and quick entrance or exit through the device and may be folded into a compact article when not in use so that it may be conveniently handled or stored in a comparatively small space.

Another object of this invention is the provision of a portable frame having a protective cover removable therefrom and the frame so constructed that it may be bodily lifted to permit entrance or exit therefrom or either side thereof may be lifted or folded together for accessibility thereto.

A further object is the provision of anchoring means to prevent displacement of the device while in use on the ground and capable of being folded so as to not interfere with the use of the device on a bed.

With these and other objects in view this invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.

For a complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which:

Figure 1 is a side elevation illustrating a screen constructed in accordance with my invention and showing the same in an operative position for use 35 upon the ground.

Figure 2 is a bottom plan view illustrating the frame in an extended position with the cover removed.

Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view illustrat- 4() ing the means for permitting the frame to be folded and also showing the means of holding the frame or parts thereof in an extended position.

Figure 5 is an end view showing the cover folded.

Referring in detail to the drawings, the numeral I indicates a collapsible frame having a 50 cover 2 applied thereto by separable fasteners 3 whereby the cover may be removed from the frame when designed to collapse the latter. The cover and frame when in use form a device of substantially dome-shape covering an area of such 55 a size that one or more people may comfortably occupy a reclining position within the area under the device so as to be protected from insects. The cover 2 is constructed of a forarninous material, preferably water-proof so as to protect the persons thereunder from weather elements. 5

If desired opaque artistic figures may be applied to the cover so that when the device is employed for sunbaths, such figures will appear on the bodies of the users by preventing the sun rays from burning or tanning portions of the body 10 shielded by the artistic characters.

The frame I consists of pairs of spaced parallel members 5 having the opposing ends thereof pivotally connected, as shown at 6, whereby said members may be folded upon each other and to 15 maintain the members extended pivoted latches 7 are provided and engage with keepers 8.

The members 5 carry brackets 9 to which are pivoted the ends of bows it, the latter supporting the cover 2. The bows Hi are arranged in 20 two groups with the bows of each group connected by collapsible braces H whereby the groups of bows may be effectively held in extended positions. for supporting the cover or may be folded one upon the other when desiring to collapse the 25 frame.

Anchoring elements i 2 are pivoted to the members 5 and are pointed to facilitate the insertion thereof into the ground for preventing displacement of the device when used out-of-doors. When desiring to employ the device on a bed the anchors l2 are folded within the members 5.

As shown in Figure 1 either end of the device may be lifted by collapsing the respective bows thereof so that entrance or exit to the device may be easily accomplished. The frame when folded with the cover removed forms a compact device capable of easy handling and convenient storing and the cover may be rolled. into a compact article as shown in Figure 5.

It is to be understood that the frame is constructed by a method capable of providing necessary rigidity to the device but which will be light in weight so that the device can be conveniently handled either when folded or extended.

While I have shown and described thepreferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that minor changes in construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention, as claimed.

Having described the invention, I claim:

1. A screen of the character described comprising a foldable intermediate frame and outer bows, groups of bows pivotally connected to the intermediate frame, collapsible braces between the bows of the groups and said outer bows,

- said groups and outer bows being adapted to support a foraminous covering, and means for latching the intermediate frame against folding action.

2. A screen comprising parallel members each including pivotally connected sections to permit folding of said members, means for retaining said members in an extended position, and a collapsible cover supporting means carried by said members for extension beyond the members.

3. A screen comprising parallel spaced members including pivotally connected sections to permit the members to be extended or folded, means carried by said members 'for retaining them in extended position, and a collapsible cover supporting means carried by said members and comprising brackets carried by said members, groups of bows pivoted to said brackets, collapsible braces between the bows of each group, said bows adapted to support a covering. r

4. A shelter comprising in combination a pair of stakes, a plurality of bows having fabric thereon, pivots for the opposite ends of the bows to allow collapsing or extending of the bows and the fabric, and means to attach the pivots to the stakes. 7
