METAL CAPSULE.
D Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 13, 1910.
Application filed August 13, 1907. Serial No. 388,414,
Toall whom it may concern:
- Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN VILLIAM .VILHELM MESSERSCHMIDT, merchant, a substitutes a continuation of the lowermost edge of the capsule, while the other part of the tongue is disposed at an angle to the said lowermost edge of the capsule or to an incision, cut, orthe like, therein. This assures that the capsule will be. torn on the line of rupture defined by said incision, and requires considerably less power than for the hitherto-known capsules with two lines of,
rupture, and openlngcan take place easily andv uickly.
Re erring to the accompanying drawing which shows, in side View, a capsule embtidyin this invention, a indicates the tongue re erred to, and which terminates, at one side, as a continuation of the lowermost edge of the capsule and, at the other edge, terminates at and constitutes part of the incision 5.
By making the capsule as mentioned above, weakening of the material by perforation as well as having regard to the direction of the fibers of the material are avoided, and consequently there is less restriction in the choice of the material.
The new capsule can be employed for ordinary bottles, whereas the hitherto-known capsules usually depend, for their efiiciency, on special shapes of the bottle-head. 4
Having thus described my invention and what I claim, what I desire to secure by Letters Patent of United States, is:
A capsule for bottles and similar receptacles composed of readily rupturable but imperforate material and comprising a depending flange adapted to engage the neck of the receptacle, said flange having a finger piece projecting therefrom and a single diagonal notch or slit at one side of said finger piece so arranged that a continuous pull upon the finger piece will first tear the cap- H sule along a single line across its body and finally remove the capsule bodily from the receptacle.
In testimonywhereof, I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CHRISTIAN WILLIAM VIhlIEliM MESSERSCHMIDT- Witnesses FLEISCHER,
H. STUB.
