DOOR AND THE LIKE GHECKING DEVICE.
Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 13, 1910.
Application filed February 23, 1910. Serial No. 545,469.
T o all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that l, KARL KRAMr, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at lVusseken, near Borntuchen, district of Biitow, Pommerania, Germany, have invented certain Improvements in Door and the Like Checking Devices, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a door and the like checking device which is adapted to be actuated by the air-pressure, incurred by the forcible closing of the door, so as to form a resilient abutment for the same, absorbing the shock and deadening the noise.
The invention is illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawing, Figures l and 2 representing side views of the device, partly in section, in inoperated and operated position respectively, Fig. 3, a front view in cross-section along line A-B of Fig. 1, Fig. 4, a cross-section along line C-D of Fig. 1, and Fig. 5, a perspective view of one of the parts.
Two parallel plates a are connected by means of stay-bolts b or the like in any suitable manner. Between said plates a buffer c is slidably arranged and firmly guided. In the example shown the buffer is provided with a dovetailed groove (Z and is adapted to slide by means of the same on a corresponding rib e connected to one of the plates. The buffer 0 is pressed outward by a helical spring f which is guided on a pin L, the latter' being admitted in an aperture in the buffer. A collar g on the pin can be adjusted for regulating the pressure of the spring. The buffer 0 is fitted on one side with a lug n and on the other' side with a stop p, of which the latter limits its outward movement. The plates a are further adapted to receive a V-shaped blade-spring between them. The members of said spring are parallel for a distance so as to form a guide-way by lneans of which the spring is slidably mounted on a bolt 7c. A lock-spring Z bears with its free end against the lower part of the spring z' and presses it against the bolt. One member of the spring 'i is weaker than the other and has an abutment in the form of a bolt m, and the other lilcinber rests against a lever o which is pivoted with its lower end to the plates a and which ills up the space between the front edges of the latter. On the outer end of the lever o an outward bend is provided. At a slight inward pressure on the levell o the weak member of the spring z' yields whereby the other member is turned into the route of the lug n of the butler c so as to be engaged by the latter.
The device is mounted in the door-casing, preferably near the lock, and is arranged so that the buffer c is depressed by the door when the latter is closed.
At a slow closing of the door the buffer is easily depressed against the opposition of the spring f. Should the door be forcibly closed, however, the draft created thereby will actuate the lever 0 so that the spring z' is turned, in the above described manner into the route of the lug a. lhen the door depresses the butl'er c, therefore, the latter is checked by the spring z' which is pressed down on the bolt le against the opposition of the spring Z. The shock is absorbed by the springs and no noise is produced.
The recess for the door in the door-casing may in addition be lined with a strip of felt, rubber, or the like, having the same color as the casing. The buffer c is preferably provided with a rubber front.
The mechanism may also be arranged in the lock and the construction of the parts may be varied without departing from the spirit of the invention.
I claim l. A device for checking doors and the like, comprising a buffer slidably arranged in the door-casing, a spring normally out of engagement with said butler, and a lever adapted, when the door is forcibly closed, to be actuated by the draft created by such closing so as to turn the spring into engagement with the buffer, the latter' then forming a resilient abutment for the door, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. A device for checking doors and the like, comprising a buffer slidably guided between two platcs mounted in the door-casing, a helical spring tending to hold the butl'er in projecting position so as to be depressed by the door when closed, a lug on the lower side of the butler, a lever pivoted between the front edges of the plates and adapted to be pressed inward by the draft created when the door is forcibly closed, a V-shaped spring slidably guided on a transverse bolt and pressed against the same by a lock-spring, one member of the V- abutment for the door,substantia11y as and shaped spring being Weak and bearing for the purpose set forth.
aoanst a stay-bolt the other member bearilg against Said lefer so as to be turned by KARL KRAMP' the saune, When the latter is actuated by the draft, into engagement With the lug on the buffer, vthe latter then forming a resilient i Witnesses:
