This invention relates'tocatches for cupboards and the like, and itis an object of my invention to provide a'catch that may be applied to a closet, cupboard, medicine-cabinet or the like, and which catch is compact and has means for operating the'same extending through the handleof the cupboard or medicine-chest door.
A still further object of my invention is to provide a catch that may be readily dissemrbled and assembled within the recess in the door provided for it, and which has relatively few moving parts and consequently, is unlikely to get out of order.
A still further object of my invention is to provide a catchthat is novel in its appearance, can be manufactured at a nominal sum, and is'well adapted to perform the services required of it.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, two figures have been deemed sufficient to clearly illustrate my invention, and I Figure 1 is a side view of my cupboard catch applied to a cupboard, showing a portion of the cupboard broken away to more clearly reveal the operative parts of my invention.
3 Figure 2 is a sectional view taken substantially along the lines 2- 2 of Figure 1.
Referring to the accompanying drawings wherein similar reference characters designate similar parts throughout,- a pair of cupboard doors are indicated at 1 and 2 respectively. My cupboard catch is adapted to be received'in a cut-away portion in one of these doorsin this case,- the door 1. Toward this end the door is gouged' for the reception of my improved cupboard catch, and inthis gouged portion of the door there is adapted to be inserted, my bolta'ssembly' 3 and the releasing means assemblyl. These assemblies are separate and independent from each other but co-operate together when assembled toprovide an entire cupboard catch assembly.
The actual bolt assembly comprises a casing 5, open at one end as at 6 and provided at the other end with a slot 7 through which a guiding shank 8 of a bolt 9 extends. This bolt 0 9 comprises a body portion beveled as at 10,
and the body portion has on the upper surface of the same, a slot 11. The reduced shank 8 extends from one end or" this bolt and is surrounded by a coil-spring 13' hearing 55. against shoulders 14 on the body portion,
and against the interior of the casing 5, in order that the bolt may at all times be urged to the position shown in Figure 2, partially extended from the casing. The releasing assembly comprises a substantially cylindrical casing 15, through which diametrically extends the bolt assembly 3 as clearlyshown at 17 in Figure 1. A second casing 18 is adapted to be received within the casing 15, and this second casing has a curved lower portion indicated at 19, adapted to bear firmly against the casing 5. The casing 5 is provided with a cliametrical slot 20 at the point where it contacts with the casing 18. A suitable pin 22 extends diametrically across 5 the casing 18, and pivoted on this pin 22 is a hell-crank link 23 having a cam surface 24 on one end thereof, and an arm 25 slightly curved as at 26, to extend through the slot 20 into the slot 11 in the bolt 9. This bell-crank link is pivoted to the pin 22 and serves to operate the bolt 9 for the purpose of retracting the same. The casing. 15 is exteriorly threaded throughout a portion of its length, and a knob27 having a central bore therethrough and internal threads on a portion of said bore, is adapted to be received on the casing 15 in threaded engagement. This knob is provided with a flange 28 which bears firmly against the side of the cupboard when the knob 27 is screwed on the casing 15. When the flange 28 does bear against the side of the cupboard, a considerable degree of tension is given to the casing 15 and the boltassembly3 is consequently held tightly in place. The knob 27 is provided as at 30 with an internal, annular flange, and an adjustable button-or finger-latch 31 is mounted for slidable movement within this flange. This finger-latch comprises a plug 32 and a socket member 33. The socket member has an annular flange 34 formed thereon, which is adapted to have en-' gagement with the internal, annular flange 30, to prevent the button from being removed from within the knob 27. The plug 32 is exteriorly threaded and has threaded engagement with. the socket 33 which is internally threaded. The cupboard-door2 is recessed as at 40, and a metal veneer plate 41 is inserted in the recess, into which plate the bolt 9 is adapted to extend. The acent edges of the cupboard-doors are closely fitted together, and improper closing of these doors is rovided for by means of the protruded portions 44 and 45 of the doors 2 and 1 respectively.
The door 2 may be providedwith a blind knob 46 if desired.

oylmdrical casing 18 is inserted in the casing 15, and the handle is screwed on the last mentioned casing with the finger-latch therein until the flange 28 bears against thecupboard, thereby holding all parts in operative relation against removal. Depression of the finer-latch 31 causes the plug 22 to bear against t e cam surface 24 on the short arm of the bellcrank link 23, and the arm 25 is caused to swing, carryin with it the bolt 9 against the compression 0 the coil-spring 13. When the .Eressure 0n the finger-latch 31 is relieved, the
olt is instantly projected from its respective casing. To dissemble the device it is merely necessary to reverse this operation and .allof the operative parts may beremoved,
I do not desire to limit myself particularly to; the .use of my invention on cupboards, cahinets andthe like, but may apply the princigles of the same to any manner of swinging oor, casement or the like. I further contemplate the use of my invention in connection with sliding doors, easements and the like, and if desired, my improved latch might well be empl o ed to latch a chest of drawers, a window, sli ing door, and in fact, my invention can be applied-universally as a catch.
It will beunderstood that various changes in the detail of construction may be made without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as defined by the appended claims. v
I claim:
1. The combination with a door, of an open-endedcasing within said door, a bolt slidable within said casing, means for normal- 1y urging said bolt from said casing, a second casing through which said first casing extends, an internal sleeve in said casing, a single bell-crank link pivoted in said sleeve,
one arm of which engages said bolt and bell-crank link pivoted in said sleeve, one arm of which engages said bolt and is adapted upon movement to move the same, the other arm providing a cam surface, a hollow knob threadedly receivable by said second mentioned casing, an adjustable fin er-latch comprising a plug and socket mem er threadedly receivable one within the other.
3. The combination with a door of an open ended casing within said door, a bolt slidable within said casing, a spring for normally urging said bolt from said casing, a second casing through which said first casing extends, and a single bell crank link pivoted therein, one arm of which engages said bolt and is adapted upon movement to move the same against the tensionv of said spring, the other arm providinga cam surface, anda finger latch adapted-to engage said cam surface to operate said bellcrank link and said bolt.
4. The combination with a door of an open ended casing within said door, a bolt slidable within said casing, means for normally urging said bolt from said casing, a second easing through which said first casing extends, an internal sleeve in said casing, a single crank link pivoted in said sleeve, one arm of which engages said bolt and is adapted upon movement to move the same, the other arm providing a cam surface, a hollow knob threadedly receivable by said second mentioned casing, a finger latch extending from said knob, said finger latch having a flange limiting its movement outwardly from the knob, and an adjustable plug screw threaded on said latch and adapted to engage said cam sburface to operate said bell crank link and said In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
