UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JEFF J'. FOOTE, OF ATLANTA, GEORGIA.
'HAT BOX OR CARRIER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JEFF J. Foorn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Atlanta, in the county of Fulton and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hat Boxes or Carriers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a hat-box or carrier adapted to be carried in the hand or to be checked as baggage for transportation.
The object of my invention is to provide a hat carrier of simple construction, having a detachable frame or stand adapted for holding and displaying a number of hats, and also serving as a longitudinal and transverse brace for the body of the box.
The matter constituting my invention will be defined in the claims.
The details of construction may be understood by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l represents a vertical central section of the box, with the interior stand or frame in elevation. Fig. 2 represents a perspective view of the hat stand detached from the box. Fig. 3 represents a sectional de t ail view.
The body A of the box and its attached cover B are preferably made of sole leather, fiber board or other thin light material and of any desired shape. The cover B is attached to the body by a leather strap and rivets b, and the strap is so riveted to the cover as to form a central hand hold b. The strap is extended and engaged with a buckle ct at the side of the body.
IVithin the body is placed a detachable hat supporting stand C constructed and arranged for bracing and strengthening the carrier. The stand C is constructed with a central longitudinal partition c secured to a transverse base c and a transverse top plate or partition c. The base and top partitions are made approximately the same diameter as the interior of the body, so as to slide freely therein, and the partition c is preferably of a width equal to the diameters of said parts. The base and top transverse partition will preferably conform to the con- Specicaton of Letters Patent.

tour of the body, whether circular, elliptical or rectangular in cross section, so as to edectively brace and strengthen its walls. The longitudinal partition c will also brace the walls of the body. Short studs e are preferably secured to the underside of base c.
To the top partition c is applied centrally a hat supporting crown D, and fastening devices may be used for holding a hat in place. Similar crowns E, E'l are applied centrally to the vertical partition c. To the partition c are pivoted two or more hooks f in position to engage with eyes g secured to the wall of the body. These fastening devices serve to hold the stand in place and prevent the hats supported thereon from being knocked about and injured. Loops or straps h are also secured to the upper part of the stand for lifting it out of the box.
Evidently two or three hats may be safely carried in the box by hand, or transported as baggage. The stand C may be conveniently lifted out of the carrier for displaying a number of hats without the necessity of handling each hat. The carrier and detachable stand are not limited to particular dimensions, and the longitudinal partition c may be provided with two or more crowns on each side for supporting an equal number of hats. The base c will also serve to support other articles, such as caps, collars, etc.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The combination with a hat box or carrier, of a detachable hat supporting and display stand consisting of a base, a longitudinal partition and an upper transverse partition, said base and transverse partition conforming in diameter and contour to the body of the box and serving to brace and strengthen the same, and the longitudinal and transverse partitions having means for supporting hats, and means for fastening the stand to the walls of the box, substantially as described.
2. The combination with a hat boX or carand corresponding eyes for the same on the rier7 having an attached cover and means body7 substantially as described, 10 for fastening the same, of a detachable hat In testimony whereof I affix my signature supporting and display stand having longiin presence of two Witnesses.
