OSWALD BOMBORN, OF STUTTGART, GERMANY.
DEVICE FOR SECURING SPRING-CLAMPS IN FILES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 30, 1910.
Application filed May 26, 1909. Serial No. 498,430.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OSWALD BoMBoRN, subject of the German Emperor, residing at 8 Kanzleistrasse, Stuttgart, Germany, engineer, have invented a new and useful Improved Device for Securing Spring-Clamps in Files, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a clamping device for flat files with folding backs, in which the papers are held only at narrow edges without perforation by spring clamps lying fiat along the back of the file and secured to the cover of the file or to a folding strip, while the free ends pressing on the papers are bent down vertically to the main part extending along the back of the file and provided with press buckles, bosses or studs. The invention consists in, a device for securing the spring clamps to a part of the cover of the file or to a folding strip.
According to this invention, the device for securing the spring clamps consists of a thin fastening plate which is provided with a pressed edge, and adapted to be movably attached by means of hinges or immovably attached by means of rivets or the like to the cover of the file or to a folding strip and possesses two bearing-depressions z is arranged under the plate a and a slot Z in the pressed edge Z) and also two further slots m, n in the plate surface, which, when coacting, have for their object to secure the spring clamps, the bearing-depressions Z, is and the slot Z in the pressed edge, securing a part of the spring clamps under the fastening plate and the slots in the plate surface guiding the free spring ends of the spring clamps on the surface of the fastening plate and also simultaneously securing same in position.
The device, according to this invention, for securing spring clamps of the said kind in files is thus of very simple construction and consists only of a stamped and punched plate, wherein the clamping springs need only be pressedin order to be secured.
The devices therefore act very accurately and can be made cheap on a large scale.
Referring to the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents the device with spring clamps as seen in front; Fig. 2 is a plan of the device and Fig. 3 a section on line AB; Fig. 4 is a plan of the device when pressing in the clamping springs; Fig. 5 is a crosssection according to line CD represents a file with folding back, wherein the spring clamps are secured to the device forming the subject matter of this invention.
The plate a has a pressed edge Z), two strips 0, cZ as boundary marks for the edges of the papers to be fastened, two hinges e f with holes for securing the devicein the file 2 by means of rivets when the plate is to be movably attached to the cover of the file, and two holes 9 h for fastening the device directly to the cover of the file by means of rivets when the plate is to be unmovably attached.
According to the invention, the-plate a is provided on its lower side with two bearing-depressions 2' 70 having a slot Z provided in the pressed edge 6 and two slots m n in the plate surface, through the coaction of which, the spring clamps are secured.
The securing of the spring clamps in the device forming the subject matter of the invention is effected in such a manner (Fig. 4) that the fastening members 7' s are in sorted in the bearing-depressions 2' It, the clamping members 00 g in the slots m n and a pressure exerted at the front on the spring clamps until the members 1' 8 lie in the slot Z and the spring members 0 p in the slots m n (Fig. 2.) The pulling rings t u are provided on the clamping members a; 3 by means of eyes o to, which clamping members 00 3 can be alternately raised into the positions as y in order that the papers to be fastened may be placed thereunder. The first finger is placed in the ring and bends the same, whereas the thumb and middle finger bear on the plate.
a is a file with folding back in which the device is secured.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim and wish to secure by Letters Patentis 1. Means for clamping letters in files comprising a plate adapted to be secured to the file, said plate having a slot in one edge and depressions adjacent said slot, and said plate also having slots in its center, and spring clamps having a portion fitting in the depressions and extending through the edge slot, and its clamping portions extending through the central slots.
and Fig. 6
2. A device for securing letters in files, handle portions secured to said clamping 10 4 comprising a plate adapted to be secured to portions.
the file, said plate having a slot in one edge In Witness whereof I have hereunto signed and slots in its central portion, and tWo demy name this 12th day of May 1909, in the 5 pressions adjacent the slot in its edge, and presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
spring clamps having a portion fitting in OSNALD BOMBORN. the depressions and extending through the Witnesses: edge slot, and having the clamping portions MAX Kourmin,
extending through the central slots, and FRIDA KLAIBER.
