YORK, AND LEWIS NEW YORK.
Application filed January 27, 1908, Serial No. 412,895. Renewed May 28, 1910.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, \VILBUR L. Counts, of Baldwinsville, in the county of Onondaga and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Dump-\Vagon, of which the following'is a specification.
My invention relates to dump wagons and has for its object the production 'of a par ticularlysim 1e and etiicient. means for returning the umping doors to their closed position and for holding the same in such position; and to this end it consists in the combinations and constructions hereinafter set forth and claimed.
In describing this invention, reference is had to the accompanying drawing in which like characters designate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figures 1 and 2 are respectively front and rear elevations of the box of my dump wagon, the dumping doors being shown as closed in Fig. l, and open in Fig. 2. Fig. 3 is an inverted plan partly broken away of the bottom of the box. Fig. 4 is a plan of the operating mechanism and adjacent parts of the body of'the wagon. Fig. 5 is an elevation looking to the right of the parts seen in Fig. 4:.
l is the box of my dump wagon having dumping doors.2, which meet at substantially the longitudinal center of the box, the doors inclining upwardly and outwardly from their meeting edges. Said doors are provided with upwardly extending supporting members 3 and d at their front and rear ends, which are pivoted at 5 and 6, respectively, to the front and rear end boards of the box the pivots 5 and 6 being located nearer the outer edges of the doors'tlian the inner edges so that the doors will s mg outwardly when released. ln'ider the weight of the load. One of the front members 3 is provided with an upwardly extendia'ig a'rin7, and one of the rear mmnbers 4 is also provided with a similar arm 8, and links 9 and 10 connect, respectively, the arm 7 and the other front member 3, and the arm 8 and the other rear member, said linkst) and 10 serving to transmit the motion of one door to the other and to equalize the movement of the doors. v,
The doors are normally held in their closed positions by locking means carried by and swinging with one of the doors 2,

the opposite door 2, and with a cam-face 16 in advance of the shoulder 14. The rock shaft is turned in one direction to move the latch into operative position by a spring 17 which is connected at one end to an arm 18 mounted on the rear end of the rock-shaft 11 and at its other end to the corresponding member 4. Such rock-shaft is operated to move the catch 12 out of operative position against the action of the spring 17 by a lever 19 mounted on the front end of a forwardly extending rock-shaft 20 located in front of the box and journaled in bearings formed in blocks or brackets 21 secured to the inner face of the neck 22 of the body of the wagon, the rock-shaft 20 being pro-, vided at its rear end with a rock-arm 23 which is connected to the rock-arm 24 car ried on the front end of the shaft 11 by a link 25. Obviously, when the lever 19 isdepressed, motion will be transmitted to the rock-shaft 11 through the rock-shaft v20, arm 23, link 25, and arm 24, and the latches 12 will be moved outwardly disengaging their shoulders 1t momentarily from tilaelip 15 so that the doors will be opened by the weight of the load in the box. As the doors are approaching their closed positions, the cam faces 16 of the latches 12 engage the lip 15 so that the latches are depressed and tin turning the doors to their closed position,
this means consisting of a foot lever 26 and connections b tween said-lever and oneof the front supporting members 3 of the dumping doors.
prise a rock-shaft 27, extending parallel to the rock-shaft 20 and journaled in bearings formed in the blocks or brackets 21 and carrying rock- arms 28 and 29 at its Said connections com-- respectively, and links.

ln testimony whereof, I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two attesting Witnesses, at Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga, in the State of New York, this 17th day of January, 1908.
