To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAoKvrLLn G. LEY- sox, of Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Toy, of which the following is a specification.
My invention has for its object the product-ion of a toy; and it consists in the novel combinations and features hereinafter set forth and claimed.
In describing this invention, reference is had to the accompanying drawing in which like characters designate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure l is an end view, partly broken away, of one construction of my toy. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view thereof, partly in elevation. Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 2 of another construction of my toy.
This toy comprises a body, a vane-wheel supported by the body, and sound-producing means operated by the vane-wheel.
As illustrated, the body comprises a part 1 which serves as a handle, and a frame supported by, and projecting forwardly from, one end of the part or handle 1, and comprising arches 2 composed of wire strands, the forward ends of said strands being fixed to a disk 3 located at the crowns of the arches, and the rear ends thereof being connected to the part or handle 1 said disk having a central opening and forming a bearing for the vane-wheel shaft presently described. Preferably the rear ends of the arches are secured to a base 4 fixed to the end of the part or handle 1, but as seen in Fig. 3 the base 4 may be omitted and the afiches secured directly to the part or han- The part or handle 1 is formed with a lengthwise bearing 5 alined with the opening of the disk 3 in which a shaft 6 is journaled, said shaft extending through the opening of said disk 3 and beyond the outer ends of the arches 2. As seen in Fig. 2, the bearing 5 may extend through both ends of the part or handle 1, or as seen in Fig. 3, may open through but one end of said part or handle 1. In the former case the part or handle 1 is formed with countersunk openings 7 and 8, at its opposite ends concentric with the bearing 5 in which collars 9 and 10 provided on the shaft are respectively located, balls 11 being inserted between the journal bearing. In the latter case the shaft is formed with an annular shoulder 12 which engages the rear face of the disk 3 to hold the shaft in the bearing, and a ball 13 located at the end of the bearing 5, Fig. 3, receives the end thrust of the shaft.
The vane-wheel 14 is'mounted on the end of the shaft 6 outside of the arches 2, and the sound-producing means operated by the vane-wheel, are located within the arches. As here illustrated, such means consist of bells 15 preferably carried by the shaft 6, said bells being engaged by clappers 16 carried by the arches 2 and also by clappers 17 located within the bells.
In use, when the windmill is actuated, the bells will rotate with the shaft and encounter the clappers carried by the arches and also be engaged with the clappers within the bells; and rotation of the shaft may be governed by pressing inwardly the collar 10 at the free end of the handle.
What I claim is 1. I11 a toy, a body comprising a part formed with a bearing and a frame projecting forwardly from one end of said part, said frame including an arch, a shaft journaled in the bearing and extending through the frame and beyond the arch, a vane-wheel fixed to the shaft outside of the arch, a bell mounted on the shaft within the arch, and a clapper for engaging the bell, substantially as and for the purpose described.

In a toy, a body comprising a part formed with a bearing and a frame supported by said part, said frame including an arch, a shaft journaled in the bearing and extending through the frame and beyond the arch, a bell located within the frame, and a clapper carried by the shaft for engaging the bell, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
3. In a toy, a body comprising a part formed with a bearing, said part serving as a handle, a frame projecting forwardly from one end of said part and consisting of a base secured to said part, and an arch having its rear ends secured to the base, a shaft journaled in the bearing and extending through the frame and beyond the arch, a vane-wheel fixed to the shaft outside of the arch, and bells within the arch, substantially i specified.

In a toy, a body comprising a part formed with a bearing, said part serving as a handle, a frame projecting forwardly from one end of the handle and consisting of a base secured to said part, an arch, and a disk located at the crown of the arch, said arch being composed of strands of wire having-their opposite ends fixed respectively to the base and the dish, a shaft journaled in the bearing and extending through the frame and beyond the arch, a vane-wheel fixed to the shaft outside of the arch, and bells fixed to the shaft within the arches, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

Tn a toy, a body comprising a part formed with a bearing, a shaft journaled in the bearing, and a vane-wheel fixed to the shaft, bells carried by the shaft and interposed between the windmill and the opposing end of said part, and clappers supported independently of the bells for engaging the bells, substantially as and for the purpose 7. In a toy, a body comprising a part formed with a bearing, and a frame supported at one end of said part, said frame including an arch, a. shaft ournaled in said part and extending through the frame and beyond the arch, a vane-wheel fixed to the shaft outside of the arch, a bell mounted on and fixed to the shaft within the arch, and a clapper carried by the arch for engaging the bell, substantially as and for the purpose described.
8. In a toy, a body comprising a part formed with a bearing and a frame supported by said part, said frame including an arch, a shaft journaled in the bearing and projecting through the frame and beyond the arch, a vane-wheel fixed to the shaft outside of the arch, a bell carried by the shaft within the arch, a clapper located within the bell, and a clapper supported by the arch for engaging the bell, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
