Description

tait/ed' tatts een eine.
Letters Patent No. 96,811, (lated November 16, 1869.
/ IMPROVEMENT IN LATE-MILLS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the s ame.
To whom lit may concern:
Be it known that I,`JQHN S. HYDE, ot' Pentwater, in the county of Oceana, and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Gang-Lath Mills; and I do declare that the following is a true and accurate description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, and heilig a part of this specification.
Figure l is a front view of my apparatus.
Figure 2 is a top View of the same.
The same letters -r'efer to like parts in each figure.
This invention relates to machines for sawing lat-hs, and consists in an improved forni ot' roller, as. will be fully described hereinafter. f
1u order to accomplish this end, I construct a Inachinc, whose various parts I will now naine.
A is a saw-frame, of any suitable construction, surmouuted by the yokes O, to'ivhich are attached proper arbors for the saw-mandrel D, and the roller-shafts E and F. v
The mandrell) is provided with a gang of saws, secured in the usual way at or near the outer end of the mandrel.
The saws are designated by x.
The pulley C is fastened upon said mandrel, at or near its centre, and when properly connected by a belt, gives motion to the whole of the mechanism of the machine. v
0n the. mandrel, and near the pulley C, is rigidly fastened the pulley J, which, being connected to couutershaft H, by belt 6 and pulley I, imparts n10- tion to the same.
At the outer end of the conntershaft H there is att-ached a proper pulley, giving motion and same dimandrel 1),' midway between tne feedrolle1s E and F, and in position to saw the bolt or plank as it passes through by the feed-rollers heretofore described.
The rollers E and F are provided with separatingcollars l, l, l, dividing the laths after being sawed,
- and securing a parallel position ofthe same until the laths pass from the Vsaws and rollers, and are delivered upon the inclined way U, and are deposited back of the machine, as may be desired.
It is a bar upon the top of the way U, which divides the lath. from the bolt or plank, the lath being disposed of, as hereinbet'ore described, while the `bolt or4 plank falls upon rollers L, when, by their motion, the bolt or plank is returned to the operator, the rollers P and P2 Motion is given to the rollers L by p'ulleys 2, belt 7, and pulley 3, on countershaft H.
The curved spring M rests at each end on boxes pivoted on top ofthe shafts ll, near the yoke 0, and is secured at its centre by the screw X passing through a proper ear attached to the yoke O, thereby securing an adj nstability to the upper feed-rollers, according to the thickness of the bolt to be sawed.
'l is a platform or table, froln which to feed the machine, and attached thereto is the wall S, acting as a guide.
V are stops at the ends of the machine, to prevent the bolts from being driven out of the ends ofthe machine, and suplmrting-bar Q serves for a bridge-tree to sustain the outer ends of the rollers L and P, while their opposite ends are sustained by the frame.
5, 4, and 9, are intermediate tightening-pulleys for the different belts.
\Vhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The feed-rollers E, constructed as described, when-v used for the purpose ot' separating the laths, as set forth.
JOHN S. HYDE.
