SPOOL-HOLDER.

Be it known that I, SARA P. WILLIAMSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spool-Holders, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to sewing accessories and more specifically to improvements in thread-spool racks or holders.

The object of my invention is the provision of a spool holder as mentioned which will be adapted to accommodate or hold a plurality of spools of thread of different sizes in such a manner that the thread carried thereon may be readily uncoiled there from.

Another object is the provision of a spool rack so designed that the spools may be readily and quickly arranged therein or removed therefrom; and further a device which will be simple of construction and hence of low costito manufacture.

Other objects will appear hereinafter.

WVith these objects in view my invention consists in a spool holder characterized as abovementioned and in certain details of construction and arrangement of parts all as will be hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the'appended claim.

My invention will be more readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specifica tion, and in which,

Referring now to the drawings, 1 indicates an elongate, preferably substantially rectangular base member of suitable dimensions. Centrally arranged upon and upwardly projecting from the upper surface of the member 1, is a plurality of spaced bearing pins or studs 2 formed preferably integral with said base member, said pins being of such thickness as to adapt the same to be loosely received in the central longitudinally extending perforation usually provided in an ordinary thread-spool. Said pins as seen are of graduated length in order to adapt the same to accommodate spools of various sizes. Rigidly secured by screws 3 Specification of Letters Patent.

By forming said standard of a suitable resilient metal it is evident that the engagement of said studs with said perforations or the disengagement thereof therefrom, may be readily and quickly effected by simply springing said standard slightly outwardly. The bar 8 as shown, and as above stated, is of step form, it being so designed in order to adapt the same to accommodate spools of various heights.

In use, upon releasing the end 7 of the bar 8 and swinging the latter upwardly and outwardly, thread-spools of various sizes may be arranged upon any or all of the bearing pins 2 in the manner shown in dot-i ted lines in Fig. 1. Upon returning said bar to normalor horizontal position and securing the same in such position in the manner before described, said spools will be locked against displacement from the pins 2, but will be free to rotate thereon so as to permit of the ready uncoiling of thread therefrom. A plurality of slits 11 is preferably provided in one edge of the base member whereby the free ends of the threads carried upon the spools arranged in the device, may be secured so as to prevent unraveling or uncoiling of the threads from the spools.

While I have shown what I deem to be the preferable form of my device I do not wish to be limited thereto as there might be various changes made in the details of construction and the arrangement of parts with out departing from the spirit of the invention comprehended within the scope of the appended claim. And although I have designed my device for the special purpose of holding thread-spools it may be used for any other purpose to which it is applicable.
