Specification of Letters Patent.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM A. WILLIAMS, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Rochelle, in the county of VVestchester and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Gutter-Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to gutter hangers, the object being to provide a gutter hanger which can be easily and quickly attached to the roof of a building and one which will adjust itself to suit any size gutter.
Another object of my invention is to provide a hanger which can be easily and quickly adjusted so as to give the gutter the proper drain and one which is so constructed that after being adjusted there is'no danger of it becoming loose.
A further object of my invention is to provide a hanger which is exceedingly cheap and simple in construction and one which is composed of a very few parts which are so arranged and connected together that it is almost impossible for the parts to become loose when in use.
With these various objects in view, my invention consists in the novel features of construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification :F igure 1 is a side elevation of my improved gutter hanger showing the application of the same to a roof, the gutter being shown in section. Fig. 2 is a section taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a section taken on line 33 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a plan view of the fastening pin. Fig. 5 is a top plan view of the locking sleeve.
In carrying out my improved invention I employ an angled bracket A adapted to be secured to the roof of a building by any suitable means the depending vertical portion of which is provided with a series of openings A. The depending portion extends through a slot formed in the U-shaped portion C of a strip B, and is provided with oppositely disposed openings through which a fastening pin D is adapted to extend which is provided with an angled portion D adapted to fit around the U-shaped portion, when resting on the strip B so as to securely lock the pin in place so that all danger of it becoming loose is prevented and it will be seen that when it is desired to remove the pin it is swung upwardly against the edge of the depending portion of the bracket so as to throw the angled portion D out of engagement with the U-shaped portion which will allow the pin to be drawn out of the opening so that the strip can be adjusted on the bracket.
The strip B is provided with an angled end B to which is secured the angled end E of a substantially semi-circular strap E by a rivet or any other suitable means the other end of the strap E being provided with a substantially open ring shaped loop E the extreme end of which is bent inwardly as shown at E adapted to rest on the other end of the strip B. which is provided with an angled end B which forms a stopand prevents the strap from drawing apart. The end E is secured on the strap B by a sleeve F which will securely lock the strap in position and is held thereon by frictional contact with the strap E. It will be seen that by this arrangement the strap can be easily and quickly placed around the gutter G the loop portion fitting snugly around the beading of the gutter and it will be seen that the loop portion of the strap will give so as to fit snugly around diiferent styles of gutters.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that I have provided a gutter hanger which is so constructed that it can be easily and quickly attached to a gutter or detached therefrom and one which can be adjusted on the supporting bracket so as to give the gutter the proper drain.
What I claim is 1. A gutter hanger comprising a supporting bracket provided with a series of openings, a strip provided with a slotted U- shaped portion and having oppositely disposed openings adjustably mounted on said bracket, a pin adapted to extend through the openings of the strap and bracket provided with an angled portion adapted to fit around the U-shaped portion of the strap, a substantially semi-circular strap carried by said strip, said strap being provided with an open ring shaped portion adjacent one end and means for securing the free end of said strap to said strip.
2. A gutter hanger comprising an angled bracket provided with aseries of openings, a strip provided with a U-shaped portion having a slot and provided with oppositely disposed openings adjustably mounted on the bracket, a pin adapted to extend through said openings of the U-shaped portion and bracket, said pin being provided With an angled portion adapted to fit around the U- shaped portion of the strip locking the same Within the openings of the strip and bracket and a strap carried by said strip together ith means for securing the free end of said strap to said strip.
