To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PEARL 'N. Jones, of Pittsburg, Allegheny county, Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Door-O crating Mechanism for Passenger-Cars, 0' which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a sectional plan view of the rear platform of a passenger car, the section being taken on the line I-I of Fig. 2. In this figure, the entrance doorsare shown closed, while the exitvdoors are in theiropen positions; Fi 2 is a vertical section on the tine II"II 0 Fig. '1 Fig. 3 is a detail view of a portion of the: door-operating mechanism; Fig. 4 is a detail view showing the pivot roller for one of the doors; Fig. 5 is a plan view of the car step; Fig. 6 is an elevation of a portion of one of the doors; Fig. 7 is a perspective view showing a portion of one of the doors and a portion of the upper track-for the doors; Fig. .8 is a detail sectional view showing part of the door-operating mechanism; Fig. 9 is a diagram illustrating the door movements; and Fig. 10 is -a diagram shosving a modification.'

The present invention has more particular relation to the means-for operating the en: trance and exit doors of the .car, the doors being so arranged and operated that in both their and closedpositions, they are sub; '"st'antl without projection beyond the side" lines ofthe car' and the opening and closing movements'b effected in such a way as to encroach b ittle lipon the space I A further objpct of my invention is to provide a dooreparating mechanism which -="and,yvhich will now be described, it being. premised, however, that various changes. may be made in the details (if oonstractionv an arrangement of the various parts, without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention as defined in the appended claims.
In these drawings, the numeral 2 designates the (platform of a car structure which is inclose or vestibuled atone side and at the"rear, as shown at 3.

5 designates the car step arranged at one side of the platform or vestibule.

12 designates two doors which control the exit, and 13 two other doors which control the entrance. These doors extend -from a point near the car roof downwardly to the floorof the car step 5. In order to give clearance in turning corners and to bring these doors well within the side lines of the car, the vestibule and platform are of gradually decreasing width toward the rear end and .the doors, together with the step, are
preferably set in the inclined plane of the side lines of the vestibule. Each door is provided at its upper end with a bracket 14', secured thereto and carrying aflanged roller '15, which is mounted to travel between and upon parallel track .bars16, as best shown in Fig. 7.
