Be itknown that I, HENRY HowsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented certain Improvements in Passenger-Cars, of

My invention relates to certain improveinents in cars of the type inwhich a passenger pays the fare on entering the car.
The object of my present invention-is to close one side of the platform by means of doors so arranged that they will not. interfere with passengers standing on the platform. Theplatform is entirely inclosed. and.

At one side of the platform is a' fixed panel section B having a channel '6 for the reception of a sliding door E, which is at the passengers, and extending from this post to the center post C of the transverse partition C is a guard I in the form of a rail. In the-drawings I haveshown one-method of construction by which the doors can be bracket'fand f on the doors F and-F, respectively,,and on the bracket f isa rod f connected to' a. chain-1 f attach ed tothe other bracket and passing around a fixed wheel on the car' frame. Projecting from: the other bracket f is a rod? f connected to a chai f which is attached to the first mentioned bracket 1, and. this chain passes around a wheel on the fixed portionof the can and each door has:- grooved wheels adapted to a rail, so that when one door is moved in one direction. the other door will move in the: opposite directions. The section M? is hinged at m to the parti-' tion C and the-section M is pivoted at m" to the-section M. The seat is adapted to be folded into a recess in the. said partition, formiiig a panel. These sections are supported on lunged brackets m carried by the panel section B so that when the seats are not in use they can be folded out of the way. When the platform is at the rear end of the car, as in Fig. 1, the-rail is placed as shown, so as to divide the platform into ingress and egress sections 1), b, and the conductor is located in the egress section b. The doors can be operated by the conductor so as to open or close the passageways b, b

I claim 1. The combination in a passenger car, of a body portion, a platform, means for closplatform, said means consisting of a fixed panel at the outer end of the latform, leaving a passageway, and two sliding doors adapted to move towards and from each other to close the passageway. 2. The combination in a passenger car, of a body portion, side of .the platform near the outer end thereof, a post separating the space between the panel and the body of the car into ingress and egress passageways, and slidin doors adapted to move to and from eac other and arranged to close the passageways.
