To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HERMAN J. Hnownn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oakland, in the county of Alameda and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Target- Finders, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to an illuminating attachment for fire arms, and the principal object of the same is to provide an improved device of the character stated that may be supported beneath the barrel of the fire arms and caused to project a ray of light so that a target or other objects may be illuminated thereby.

In carrying out the object of the invention generally stated above it will be understood, of course, that the usual features thereof are necessarily susceptible of changes in details and structural arrangements, a preferred and practical embodiment of which is shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure I is a view in side elevation of a revolver showing the improved illuminating attachment carried thereby. Fig. II is a fragmentary top plan View. Fig. III is an end view. Fig. IV is a detail end view of the illuminator, shown detached from the revolver. Fig. V is a fragmentary vertical longitudinal sectional view of the projecting tube of the illuminator.

In the accompanying drawings the improved illuminator has been shown attached to an ordinary revolver, but it is to be understood that the same may be used in connection with any other type of fire arm.

The improved illuminating attachment comprises the well known type of fiat bodied pocket lamp 4, the rear end 5 of which has at its rear end a longitudinal passageway or socket 6 which is of a size to permit the free entry therein of the usual cylinder shaft of a revolver or other projection. On one side of said body a push button 7 is provided for lighting the usual lamp that is contained within said body so that said lamp will project its ray through the forward end of the body. A tube 8 projects from the center portion of said body and surrounds the light opening therein, said tube having a lens 9 suitably secured in its outer end. A strap hanger composed of a ring 10 that surrounds the tube 9 and a hexagonal ring 11 supports the forward end of said tube, said hexagonal ring being fitted over the forward end of the revolver barrel 2 and having a slit 12 formed in its upper portion that engages with the barrel sight 3 so that lateral movement of said ring is prevented.

An operating lever is pivotally connected to one side of the lamp body adjacent the push button thereon, said lever having an elongated end 13 that projects toward the handle of the revolver and terminates in an angular finger grip 14 so that said lever may be readily operated by the user. The other end of said lever is provided with an outwardly bent button operating end 15 that contacts with the push button as the lever is rocked so that the lamp within said body will be illuminated in a manner well understood.

The pocket lamp that is used in connection with the present invention is of a well known type, and as the present invention has no relation thereto other than to provide a light projecting attachment therefor and also means for suspending said lamp beneath the barrel of the fire arm, a detail description of said lamp has not been thought to be necessary.

From the foregoing description it will be seen that the improved illuminating attachment may be readily attached beneath the barrel of a fire arm with its light projecting tube parallel with the barrel, so that by manipulating the operating lever said lamp will be caused to project a ray of light outwardly from the barrel of the fire arm so that targets or other objects will be illuminated thereby.
