UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HARRY T. KINGSBURY. OF KEENE. NEW HAMPSHIRE.
TOY DUhIIP-CABT.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I. Ilannr T. Kixosutfnv. a citizen of the United States. residing at Keene, in the county of Cheshire. State of New Hampshire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toy Dump- Carts. of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompany" ing drawing and to the figures of reference marked thereon.
The invention relates to new and useful improvements in toy dump carts.
An object of the invention is to provide a toy dump cart in which the sides of the cart may be raised away from the axle. and the bottom portion inclined so as to dump the contents of the cart- A further objectof the invention, is to provide a toy dump cart with a bottom portion, which is rigidly secured to the axle of the cart, and side portions which are pivoted to the bottom portion in front of the axle, and in which the pivotal connection is the sole connection between the sides of the cart and the axle.
A further object of the invention is to provide a toy dump cart in which the sides and the end portion are formed from a single blank.
These and other objects will in part be obvious, and will in part be hereinafter more fully described.
In the drawings, which show by way of illustration one embodiment of the invention; Figure 1 is a side view of my improved cart. Fig. 2 is a sectional view showing the bottom portion inclined, to dump the contents. Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the body portion of the cart, the wheels being omitted. F ig. dis a plan view of the blank for forming the side portions and the end of the body of the cart.
My improved cart consists of running wheels 1, 1, which are pivotally connected to an axle 2, in the usual manner. The body portion of the cart is supported by the axle 2. Said body portion is preferably made of two parts, one of which constitutes the bottom of the cart, and the other, the side portions and the connecting end portion therefor.
The bottom portion 3, as herein shown. is directly and rigidly connected with the axle Specification of Letters Patent.

end the bottom portion is curved upward, as at 4. and extends substantially to the upper edge of the side portions of the cart. The bottom portion is also provided with iatemlly projecting lugs 5. A blank (5 is sta irped out in a single operation, so as to fonn a curved central portion, and laterally projecting portions, which are notched at their extreme outer ends. so as to form projecting lugs T. The blank is also perforated at the points 8, S, and-at the points 1. E), which are adjacent the ends of said laterally projecting portions.
In forming the blank into the body portion of the cart, the same is bent along the lines 10, 10, and the central portion 11 forms the rear end portion of the car. The laterally projecting portions 12, 12, form the sides of the cart. The projecting lugs 5, 5, on the bottom portion 3, are passed through the perforations 8, 8, and slightly bent upward as shown in Fig. 1, in order to hold the side portion from lateral movement, and to pivotally connect the same to the bottom portion 3,
The projecting lugs 7, 7, are bent atright angles to the side portions and are adapted to receive in the space formed between them, the thills 13, which connect the cart to a weighted figure 14, which as herein shown has the outline of a horse. The ends of the thilL= 13 are bentlaterally, and engage the perforations 9, 9, formed in the side portions of the body part of the cart. This connection between the thills and he side portions of the cart prevents any swinging movement of one relative to the other. The bottom portion 3, is also provided with laterally projecting lugs, 15, 15, which extend under- Heath the side portions 12 of the cart.
In the normal position of the parts, the lugs 15, rest against the lower edges of the side portions 12. If it is desired to dump the contents of the cart, the lugs 15 may be engaged and pressed downward. This downward movement of the rear end of the bottom of the cart, causes the same to operate as a lever, swinging about the axle of the cart as a fulcrum. The lugs 5, 5, which pivottaily connect the bottom to the sides of the cart, will of course be raised. and as the weig t of the figure holds the forward end of the thills. the sides and the end portion 2, of the cart. Said bottom portion is de of the body part of the cart, will be raised flected slightly upward, in front of the axle. i to the position shown in full lines in Fig. 2,
as shown in Fig. 1.
At the extreme forward i and the contents of the cart, will at once slide down the inclined bottom, and thus the cart is dumped.
It will be obvious that minor changes in the'form of the parts and the details of construction, may be made, Without departbottom portion, an axle secured to said bottom portion, side portions and an end portion rigidly connected to said side portion.
and means for pivotally connecting said bottom portion to said side portions, at a point in front of said axle.
4. A toy cart including in combination, side portions, a rear end portion rigidly secaret f to said side portions, thills rigidly secured to said side portions, at the forward end thereof, a Weighted figure secured to said thills, an axle, a bottom portion secured to said axle, and pivotally connected to said side portions, at a point in advance of said axle.
5. A toy cart including in combination, an axle, a bottom portion rigidly secured to said axle, a laterally projecting lug carried by said bottom portion adjacent the rear end thereof, said bottom portion, in front of said axle, being inclined upwardly, a rear end portion and side portions rigidly connected to said end portion and pivotally connected to said bottom portion ata point in advance of the axle.
In testimony whereof I atiix my signature, 45 1n presence of two witnesses.
