FIRELESS COOKER.
teem.
Application filed March 6, 1909. Serial No. 481,584.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, ARTHUR T. HALLooK,
Fireless Cookers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such 'as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and the same.
My invention relates to improvements in fireless cookers and its object is to provide a device that may be used eitherior. cooking at a temperature less than that required for baking, or may be used at a higher tempereture for baking purposes, as occasion requires; and to provide the same with various new and useful features hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims.
The device consists essentially of s case divided horizontally near the middle and provided with means for securing heater in the upper part of the case, said upper part also being detached from the lower part and removable at pleasure, and in various novel features of combination and arrangement, as will more fully appear by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1. isa perspective of a device embodying my invention; is it trans verse vertical. section of the same; Fig. 3. a perspective of the detachable upper part of the same; Fig.4. an enlarged detail in vertical section on the line .4li of Fin: 2;
5. a perspective of a modification or my device; G. a transverse vertical section of the same; F 1g. 7. a detail in inverted plan .view of the upper part of the device; and,
Fig. 8. an enlarged detail. in vertical section of the means for detacluibly securing the up per heater in place.
Like numbers refer to like parts in all oi the figures.
1 represents the lower par. of the ruse. the upper part of the same. The chamber to receive tho-containing vessels and heaters is partially within the lower part, par tially. Within the upper part. These parts are detached and separable, the lower part being externally larger than the upper part,
and provided with a flange or stop 3, where--- by the upper part is held in place and prevented iron) lateral displacement, and a Specification of Letters Yatcnt.
.o fastenings, and further t Patented "rug. 2, 39M? packing 4 is placed between therespective parts, the Weight of the upper part being; suflicient to properly compress the packing and form a tight joint Without other clamping means.-
5 represents a heater, a slab or block of steatite or soapstone being shown, but it ohviously may be any-other kind of heater, if preferred, one or more of which may he used, and a similar heater 6 is also provided which is placed in the top of the upper part 2 and detaeliably held therein by means of a clamping her 7 having its respective ends 8 bent at right angles and adjustzibly secured to the inner surface of the'ends of the upper part 2 by means of thumb screws 10 engaging nuts 11 embedded in the wood Work 12, and extendingthrough slots 9 in the end portions 8 of the clamping bar whereby the bar can be adjusted illustrated in 3 torelease the heater 6.
13 are handles for manually removing and replacing the upper part 14 is a metal lining to the chamber and spaced apart from the outer part of the and between the: liningnnd case is a noir conducting material 15 to prevent the of heart.
it Will be noted that tne removzhle upper portion of this device contains considerable portion of the receiving chamb whereby when this upper part is removed, the containing vessels project above the lower portion :2 considerable is tance, and and placed therein, also that the upper part is or such. weight that it serves as clamp ing means 3' 'r the peeling without othr" the upper p being detaelrc and wholly connected ca be readily o1 ied from getner rcrnov'eo. as occas squires,
soiicetiines convenience in operating the device. it also be noted th n. or vapors the device he held hr min tile upper pert, rid. not as ikely to esespe through the packing as the packing were located at the top, as is usual; in such devices.
In. the modified form shown in Figs, to
inclusive,- the lower part l and upper part 2 of the case are substantially the Si-IIXQ size and located relatively one shove the other by corner plates 3 overlapping the joint therebetween end. secured to the part thus more readily removed 1 The upper heater is also provided with a central recess to receive a progection 9 fixed in the top of the case whereby the heater is properly located and held in place.
This heater is shown supported on a bar 7 pivoted at the middle to the center of the heater as at 10 and rotative on. the pivot. This bar also projects beyond the heater at its respective ends and when turned transversely of the heater, engages lugs 8 on the opposite walls of the upper part 2 of the case. I prefer to make this bar flexible and spring it under the lugs 8?, whereby the heater will be held closely againstthe top of the case. In the modified form, I have also omitted the legs and lower platform which form 110 essential part of my invention.
What I claim is:
1. A fireless cooker, comprising a case having a removable upper part, a clamping bar in the upper part adapted to engage and hold a heater and means for detachably securing the ends of the bar to the interior of. the upper part of the case.
2. s A fireless cooker comprising a case having a removable upper part, a projection in I seam-e the top of the same, a heater having recess to receive the pro ect1on, and means for de tachably supporting the heater in the top of the case.
3. A fire-less cooker comprising a case having a removable upper part, a heater adapted to he supported in the top of said part, a supporting bar pivoted at the middle to the under side of the heater, and lugs on the opposite walls of the case and engaged by the bar to support the heater.
4. A tireless cooker comprising a case having a detachable and removable upper part,
