UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
NATHAN K. GARHART, OF INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA, ASSIGNOR TO GARIIART DENTAL MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA, A
CORPORATION OF INDIANA.
DENTISTS ELECTRICAL ANNEALlNG-FURNACE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 712,057, dated October 28, 1902.
Application filed August 22,1902. Serial N0.1ZO,636. (No model.)
To all whont it may concern:
Be it known that I, NATHAN K. GARHART, a citizen of the United States, residing at Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dentists Electrical Annealing-Furnaces, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to produce a to neat and efficient electric annealing furnace particularly designed for the use of dentists, in which the annealing face or surface of the furnace may be covered by a hollow cover which is provided with a mounting by which it is permanently attached and by which it may be swung or moved from covered position to uncovered position without materially changing the plane of the cover, whereby the cover may serve as a shelf upon which surplus material may be placed, so as to be partially heated during the process of heating or annealing so much of the mate rial as may be needed for immediate use, the construction being such that the cover may be 2 5 shifted from one position to the other without danger of burning the fingers of the operator and also such that preliminarily-heated material may be easily transferred from the cover to the heating-face of the furnace.
The accompanying drawings illustrate my invention.
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing my furnace with the cover in closed position in full lines and the cover in a transitory position in dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a similar view with the cover shown in open position.
In the drawings, 5 indicates the main body,
of the furnace, supported upon suitable supporting-legs 6 and provided on its upper face with a heating-surface 7, composed of isinglass or other suitable material through which the heat generated by the electric resistancecoils of the interior (not shown, but of any desired arrangement) may radiate. The heating-face 7 is covered by a hollow cover 8. The cover is supported by a pair of U shaped links 9 and 10. For convenience in manufacture the base of one link extends through the body 5 and one arm only is pivotally connected to the cover 8, while the other arm is provided at its end with a wooden or other suitable handle. The yoke 9 has its base through the cover 8, while the free ends of its arms are pivotally connected to the body 5, and the arms of each of the yokes are of the same length, whereby by grasping the handle 11 and swinging the same upon the base of the yoke 10 as an axis the cover may be moved in parallel planes from open position to a closed position and return. As a consequence any material to be heated may be placed upon the heating-surface 11 and then covered by the cover 8, while the cover 8 may serve as a repository for any surplus material which will remain on the cover during any opening and closing which may be necessary. When the cover is thrown to open position, as shown in Fig. 2, its forward edge rests upon the main edge of the main body, and any material on top of the cover may be easily scraped therefrom to the surface 7.
I claim as my invention- 1. In an electric heater, the combination, with the main body thereof having an upper heating-face, of a hollow cover, and a pair of parallel link connections between said cover and said body whereby the cover may be swung in parallel planes from closed to open position.
2. In an electric heater, the combination, with the main body thereof having a heatingface, of a hollow cover, and a pair of supporting U-shaped links connecting said body and cover, substantially as and for the pur- 85 poses set forth.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal, at Indianapolis, Indiana, this 18th day of August, A. D. 1902.
NATHAN K. G'ARHART.
