If the ope 'ator does not release his grasp on the handle 16 while thecontrollcr is in starting position, but when the motor has gained sutiicient speed moves the handle substantially (10 farther in a clockwise direction, the controller is ln'ought to running position, as shown in Fig. 4. This movement of the drum disconnects the anto-transformer windings completely and connects the motor terminal directly to the supply mains. As the handle 16 is moved from starting to running position, the member 2'25 is moved farther in a conliter-clockwise dircction against the action of the spring .25. this movement bcing obtained lirst by the gear teeth on the gear 2t and member 22 and later by the cam surface 237 and roller "J-l. In a controller, a controller drum normally movable always in the same direction and having oil', starting, and running positions, means for biasing said drum backward to ofi' position when it is in starting position and forward to oii' position when it is in running position, a magnet connected across the supply circuit, means operative while such magnet is energized for preventing the aforesaid bias from being effective when the controller is in running position, and a switch in the circuit of said magnet which is opened upon an overload.
