To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HIMAN GARFINKEL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Post, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to posts, my more particular purpose being to provide a strong and ornamental post adapted for general use, and a peculiar value as a post forming a portion of a bedstead.
More particularly stated my invention comprehends a metallic tube encircled by a substantially cylindrical jacket made of quarter sectors bolted together, and having strengthening plates disposed between the sectors and secured by the same bolts, and a suitable outside framework for encircling these parts.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a perspective showing a post made in accordance with my invention; Fig. 2 is an enlarged section on the line 22 of Fig. 1, looking in the direction of the arrow; Fig. 3 is a horizontal section on the line 8-3 of Fig. 2, looking in the direction of the ar row; and Fig. 4: is a section on the line 44 of Fig. 8, looking in the direction of the arrow.
Mounted upon a metallic tube 5, and parallel therewith, are four metallic sectors 6, of sheet metal, held in position by aid of screws 7. Each sector 6 is provided with edges 8 turned outwardly. Between the edges 8 of adjacent sectors are strengthening plates 9, and extending through each pair of outwardly turned edges 8 and the strength ening plate therebetween, is a bolt 10, held in position by a nut 11. Each strengthening plate 9 at its inner edge abuts directly against the tube 5, and at its outer edge is beveled as indicated in Fig. 3. Secured firmly upon the outer edge of each strengthening plate 9, is a corner piece 12, which is substantially L-shaped in cross section. The post above described is not only very ornamental but strong, durable and cheaply constructed. It is made up largely of sheet metal, and various kinds of material which may be obtained in large quantities at low rates.

is such as to afford some elasticity along with the strength. When any part of the post above described is worn out or damaged it may be removed and a corresponding part may take its place. The post is not easily distorted or misshapen, for the reason that each part effectively braces every other part. While the glass panels 15 have, of course, the brittleness characteristic of glass, these panels are thoroughly protected from strains, and are, as far as possible, incased within the metallic parts as will be understood from Fig. 1.
It will be understood that I do not limit myself to any particular use for which this post may be employed. It is a very desirable construction, however, to use in connection with various kinds of bedsteads.
Having thus described my invention I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. In a post the combination of a central tubular member, a plurality of sectors extending in a general direction parallel with said tubular member, each sector having its edges turned outwardly and arranged so that one edge of one sector is parallel with an other edge of the next succeeding sector, strengthening plates disposed between said sectors and engaged by said outwardly turned edges, bolts extending through said outwardly turned edges and through said strengthening plates, and corner pieces mounted upon the outer edges of said strengthening plates.
2. In a post the combination of a central tubular member, a plurality of sectors of sheet metal secured directly upon said tubular member, each sector having a pair of outwardly turned edges extending directly away from the axis of said tubular member, strengthening plates disposed between the outwardly turned edges of one sector,- bolts connecting said outwardly turned edges 01 said sectors with said strengthening plates, corner pieces secured firmly upon the outer edges of said strengthening plates, and ornamental panels held in position by aid of said corner pieces and concealing said sectors.
3. In apost the combination of a central tubular member, sectors of sheetmetal secured rigidly thereto and provided with outwardly turned edges, strengthening plates connected w1th said outwardly turned edges,
corner pieces mounted upon the outermost portions of said strengthening plates, end pieces extending from one of said corner pieces to another for the purpose of bracing the same, and ornamental panels slidably engaging said corner pieces and said strengthening plates.
