Description
ilintll tait @tutti Qtyijirtn Letters Patent No. 96,483, dated November 2, 1869.
APPARATUS FOR TURNING THE LEAVES OF MUSIC.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent :md making part of the same.
To all whom. li t muy concern Be it known that l, ISAAC lil. Ross, of Petersburg, in the oountyof Pike, and in the Stateot'1tuliaua,have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices t'or Turning the Leaves ot- Music; and do hereby declare that the following is a tull, clear, and eK- uct description thercot', reference being had to the accompanying drmvings, and to th' letters ot' ret'erence marked thereon, making a part of `this speciticatiou.
'lhe nature of' my invention consists iu the construction and general arrangement of a device for turning the leaves ot' music without interrupting the playmg.
in order to enable others skilled in the :nt to which my invention appertaus, to make and use the same, lwill now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a plan view ot tite. entire. apparatus; Figure 2 is a bottom view ot the upper 4,pol-tion', and
Figure 3 is a bottom view of the .lower portion ot' the apparatus.
A represents a fmme, .of suitable dimensions, to he secured to or made in connection with the musicmck.
'In the upper portion of the frame A is a place for the music to stand, and be held in the centre by the rod u.
Below this place. tor the music, within the frame A, is a concave slide, B, having a zigzag groove formed on it.
On a rod above'this slid 'is placed a. selies of rollels, GC, each ot' which i provided with an arm, D, to which the music is secured by means ot' springs, or other simple means.
The rollers C C have, also, each aprojecton, i, op. posite the arm I), which is tol connect with the slide B, by passing through the zigzag groove therein, and gives motion to the arms as tbe slide passes up and down.
vE represents a plate or frame, with pulleys and projecting parts, suitable. to be scrcwcd to the tioor, said plateor frame having a. notched groove in it, as seen in figs. l :md 3, by means ot' which a slide, l", is regulated, so that its motion will correspond with the motion required to turn one of the arms D D Tln ap|aratus is operated by having a eord'or belt passing, from the slide F, to which it; is secured, through pulleyssuit-ably arranged to the concave slide B, :nul back tothe slide l?, where it is again secured, so that, by moving the slide l1` with the t'oot the distance ot' onc notch inthe groove ot' the traine E, the slide l will be moved sutii-ient to Aturn one. ot' the rollers C, and, consequently, 'that sheet which is at tachcd to its arm.
'lhe plate or trame E may be secured, in a suitable manner, near the key-board, so as to be operate-d by the band, instead ot' with the foot.
llaving thus fully described my invention,
What. I claim as new, and desire to secure by Lettels I.ltcnt,' is
1. The concave slide B, provided' with a zigzag groove, for the purposeot.' operating the rollers C C, substantially as herein set torth.
2. In combination with the concave slide B, the rollt-is C- C, havingr arms D l) and projections i all constructed as described, and operating wit-hin the hante A, substantially as and for the purposes herein set t'orth.
3. The combination ot' the trame A, grooved con" YVitnesses:
