Be. ila-known that I, HENRY S. This invention relates to :in improvement in .that clnss of' soles which is used in themanufheture of boots and shoes f'or persons who require one sole to be thicker than the other, as where one limb is shorter than the other.
Heretof'ore, in this class of' shoes, a great difficulty hns been experienced inmaking a. flexible sole, which would not soon breuk at the connection of' the shank with the hull, therefore, mamy manufacturers make the ysole the sinne thickness 'through the bull cpd shank, in which case there is 'no exibilit-y in the sole. i
The object of' my invent-ion -is to construct n cork sole, with nu elastic shank, the elastic shnnk being the connect-ion with the badi and heel.
In order to the clem` understandmg of myinventicn,
I will proceed to describe the same, as illustrzlrted 'in are firmly secured together by means of the shank C.-.
The sole thus constructed is applied to the shoe vin the usual mzmner ot' cork soles, and covered with leather, to finish the shoe.
I d'o not wish to be understood as broadly claiming a-n India-rubber shank f'or boots and shoes, zls'sueh, I :un :uvm-e, is not new; but
What I do claim ns my invention, :md desire to secure by Letters Parent, is-
