Specification o 'Letters otent.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that l, Eimsirns Y. Brita, a citizen oit the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county ot lilifyandotte sind State ot Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements .in Spring Beddottoms, ot which the following is a specification.
'lily invention relates to improvements in spring bed bottoms.
rlhe object ot my invention is to provide e bed bottom which is strong and durable, which will provide o goed mattress surface, and een be cheagly mmiuinetured.
"lhe novel features of my hereinafter fully deseribed and claimed.
ln vthe riool panying drawii'igs illustret g my inveNion--lTigure li is a. plan View. 2, iss side elevation. liig. 3 is en en` j d frz gmentaiy plan view, ltigYf/lis e ,i'de elevation ot what -shown in Fig. P). Fig. 5 is a eros: section taken on the dotted line a-b of F u Similar churzcters oli reference denote l similar` @Mam In its preferred term the bedbottom tramo compr "s two i shaped side bars upon 'which are secured two transverse inverted bers which form the ends of the iiame.
The longitudinal members have secured to their ends two of eoil springs 3 which nre disposed horisoutally and huve their outer ends respectively secured to the end bars 2. .l l"elably, the two outer longitudb nul menibe s fl olE wire, end have secured to them the ends of the transverse members 5 which are also preiierably ot Wire. The intermediate longitudinal members o are provided with eyes at the points ol intel-seo tion With the transverse members 5, through which said transverse members extend. Preferably, the longitudinal members (S are in the torni of sheet metal strips. Each eye is preferably 'formed by makin in the metal strip two longitudinal slits T and raising the metal in opposite directions at each side of each slit. Thus the'portion denoted by 8 in Fig. 3, which is located intermediate the slits 7, is raised in one direotimi, while the tivo portions El at oppositie sides of the portion 8, nre raised in the o pposiiie direction.
lbe transverse niembers beingl straight, es shown, in constructing; the bed bottom as many longitudinal members t? :is may Lbe invention :1re i two desired may be slipped on the members In like manner the members 4 being straight and passing through eyes in the ends of the cross .members L, as many transverse members 5 may be slipped on the outer members Llf may be required to obl-ain the proper strength.
llloditieations of my invention, within the scope oi2 the appended claims, may' be mode without departing from its spirit.
fl'laving' thus de. ribed my invention, what cla'i. i and desire to secure by Letters Pat.
ist-M fn i bed bottom, the combination with tran of crossed longitudinal and trims-:erst: members, the longitudinal memeoauprising strips ot sheet metal no vided at the points of intersection with the ranstverse members with eyes through which "l ransverse members extend, each eye beiiormed by longittuliually slitting the and the metal in opposite diat opposite sides of the slit, and ot coil springs secured to opposite ends )entirely of the sheet. metal strips and to the adjacent ends oi' the trame.
Q ln a hed bottom, the combination with the frame, oit erossed longitudinal and transverse members, the longitudinal members roniprisiuel strips ot' sheet. metal provided at. the points ot intersection with the tramsverse members with eyes through which the tran irse members extend, euch eye be ing 'formed by making,a two longitudinal slits, the motel at opposite sides of eaeh slit being rai. in opposite directions, and tvvo sots oie. Coil .springs secured to opposite ends respectively of the sheet. metal strips and to the :idimenty ends ot the trame.
il. En bed bottom, n trame, two outer longitudinal members having straight. portions intermediate their ends, intermediate longitudimil members hevingpeaoh a plurality of eyes, transverse members having: zitopposite ends through which extend the straight portions ol the outer longitudinal u'xeinbers, the transverse members hayingr straight, portions intermediate their eyes extending through the eyes of the intermeliaie longitudinal members, and two sets ot coil springs secured respectively to opposite ends of the longitudinal members and to the adjacent ends of the frame.
in u bed bottom, u trau'ie, longitudinal 21 metal reetions ay plurality of intermediate fiat strips having eyes, straight transverse -Wires extending through said eyes and having at their ends eyes through which the longitudinal wires extend, and coil springs secured to opposite ends of the frame and to the adjacent ends of the longitudinal members.
I In testimony lwhereof I have signed my name to this specification in presence of two I subscribing Witnesses.
