MOUNTING 0F PRECIOUS STONES FOR EAR-RINGS OR THE LIKE.
Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARGELLO BAJONI, subject of the King of Italy, residing at Milan, Italy, Portici Galleria V. E. 19, have invented new and useful Improvements in the Mounting of Precious Stones for Ear- Rings or the Like, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to an improvement in means for mounting precious stones for jewelry and more especially earrings.
The invention consists in mounting the stone or group of stones in the article so as to be adapted to oscillate in the mounting. This is effected by securing the stone to the mounting by means of one or more suitably attached springs.
The accompanying drawing illustrates three constructional examples applied to an ear-ring.
Figure l is a side elevation partly in section of this improved mounting; Fig. 2 is a similar view showing a slightly modified form; Fig. 3 is a similar View showing still another form.
In Fig. 1 the stone (4 with its setting I) is attached to the mounting c by means of a cylindrical helical spring cl, the ends of which are soldered along the internal periphery of'the setting 6 and along the internal periphery of the mounting c. The spring itself is mainly contained within the interior of the setting 6 so as to be almost invisible.
In Fig. 2, the helical spring (Z is of another form, the convolutions increase in diameter conically. The one end is as in Fig. 1 soldered to one point of the inner periphery of the mounting 0, whereas the other end is soldered or screwed to the mid dle point e of a thin cross-bar f, which is provided diametrically at the rear edge of the setting Z).
In Fig. 3 which is the preferred form the spring-connection is different. One, two or more small springs cl are soldered equidistantly apart at different points along the periphery of the setting of the mounting a respectively.
In all the three examples, in addition to the spring-connection described, a small chain g, g, or g is provided for safety and which serves to connect the setting of the stone with the mounting.
I claim:
Means for mounting precious stones in ear rings or other articles of ewelry comprising in combination with a hollow mounting, a hollow setting arranged in the mounting a plurality of springs arranged equal distances apart and with their inner ends projecting into the setting and their opposite ends attached to the inner surfaces of the setting and mounting, and a safety chain secured at opposite ends to the mounting and setting to limit the upward movement of the setting.
