To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, HERBERT O. FowLnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Buffalo, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Key-Ring Fobs, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a name plate or identification tag or fob for attachment to key rings, the object of the invention being to provide a device of this character comprising a receptacle adapted to contain a card or the like bearing the name and address of the owner of the keys, which receptaole is adapted to be held in closed position to conne the card by the key ring and to be conveniently opened for the removal of the card whenever desired, so that cards bearing a different address may be inserted.

The invention consists of the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, hereinafter fully described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device as closed and used in conjunction with a key ring. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same. Fig. 8 is a plan view with the sections of the receptacle open. Fig. 4 is a cross section through the closed receptacle.

The device comprises a holder or casing forming the receptacle for the address card, which holder or easing, as shown in the present instance, comprises two companion or counterpart sections 1 and 2. These sections Inay be of any suitable form in practice to provide a holder of any desired eX- ternal configuration, but, in the embodiment disclosed, each section 1 and 2 is of oblong rectangular form and stamped up from sheet metal through the action of a suitable die.

The body portion of the section 1 is formed with a hollow boss or offset 3, stamped outward therefrom, while the body portion of the section 2 is provided with a similar hollow boss or offset 4L said bosses or offsets extending relatively outward from the meeting faces of the sections, so that when the latter are brought together or closed, in the manner hereinafter described, a pocket or chamber 5 will be formed to receive and inclose a card or slip 6 bearing the name and address of the owner of the keys.

The end portions of the two -sections are pivotally connected at one end by a pin or rivet 7, allowing the sections to be swung in parallel relation to close the holder, as shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 4f, or outwardly into longitudinal alinement to open the holder, as shown in Fig. 3. The relatively opposite side edges of the two sections are respectively provided with

8 and 9 extending at right angles thereto, which flanges project in opposite directions so that when the sections are closed the flange 8 of the section 1 will abut against the unflanged side of the section 2, while the flange 9 of the section 2 will abut against the unflanged side of the section 1, and thus completely close any spaces or crevices which may exist between the meeting faces of the sections to prevent the entrance of dust or dirt to the closed receptacle.

The outer or free end of the section 1 is formed with an opening 10 and the outer or free end of the section 2 is formed with a similar opening 11, which openings are arranged to register when the `two sections are in closed relation. These sections are adapted to receive a cap or cover 12 formed to fit upon the saine and having openings 13 in its side walls to register with the

10 and 11, so that the key ring 14 may be passed therethrough and connect the cap with the sect-ions of the holder and to fasten the latter in closed position against any possibility of loss or displacement of the inclosed card or slip 6. The device will thus be easily connected with the ring and locked in closed position until detached from the ring, so that it may be employed as a fob if desired to facilitate the removal of the ring and keys from the pocket of the wearer. The outer face of the boss of one of the sections may bear on its face the inscription, Address inside or any other suitable matter to indicate that the holder should be opened in order that the address 0f the owner may be ascertained in the event that the keys and applied parts should be lost.

By the use of my improved tag or holder, which may be inexpensively manufactured and marketed at a comparatively low cost the owner of a ring or keys may conveniently apply the device thereto with a card bearing his name and address inclosed so that in the event of loss of the keys, the identity of the owner thereof may be ascertained by the finder. The device will also serve as a positive means of identification in case of serious illness or accident to the owner, the value and convenience of Which Will be apparent.

I claim An identification device comprising a pair of members pivotally connected to fold in parallel relation and provided at their free portions with openings adapted to register, said members having their body portions provided With oppositely projecting bosses to form a compartment for the reception of an identification medium, a removable cap HERBERT O.
