963,505. Specification ot Letters Patent.
Toall whomz'tmay cmwem:
tate of Missouri, have invented new and useful Improvements in (Frames, of
which the following is a specification; .This invention relates to that ';class of games that are played with checkers'ior markers, and it has'for'its object to: produce a sim le and entertaining game, .jwh erebiy the slnll'and ingenuity of opposing ma be exercise ith these and other ends in will readily appear as, the nature of, theyinvention is better understood, theinvention consists in a gameboard of eculiarconstruc tion which will be hereinafter?frillyjdethe scribed. particularly v on I the'obverseandireverse of oneoi the dar "1colored'che'ckersor markers.
Correspondin arts inthe several figures are denotedIby-lilib characters of reference. When racticing this'invention, the field is forme ofja plurality of spots and lines arran in the' relation shown in the drawa ing; t at is to say, a lurality of spots 1 and 2 are dis se d on t e lines of concentric squares, e spots 1 of the outermost square being connected in series .by straight lines 1" and the s ts 2 of the inner square bein connected in series bymstraight lines 2', ea
- side of each square ing com s ots and the 111188 connecting t esame. A
t ird series of s ots 3, 3 are arranged on the lines of a thir uare concentric with the outer squares 1 an '2 but smaller than either, connected in series by the s ots3being straig t lines 3', and each side of the inne most square being composed of three spots and the lines connecting the same. 1
An objective point or center spot 521sformed centrally within the squares, and rows of additional field spots are disposed on lines radiating from the center spot in the direction of the corners of the squares, each row being com osed of three spots num 'bered, respective y, 6,7 and 8, the latter being disposed nearest the center spot and on ayers I I accompanying "dravvin'g' EE-i 1 I z is a plan {view'iof the improved game "ard. Fig.52 is aview showing the obverse and reverse of one .ofthe light-colored'icheckers or markers;;"Fig. .v3fis a similar view showin 1 sed of five 1 "the line of a circle concentric therewith, vBe it known'that 'I, FINIsBOULW'ARE, a citizeniof the United States of America, re-f' 8id(i1n at 'Hatton, in the county of Callaway in concentric series.
corners of the innermost square by arcuate lmesti' forming'parts of a circle concentric with the center spot 5, and the spots 7, 7 and cuate lines 7 5 and 8, ikewise forming parts of circles concentric with each other and with the center spot 5. Each of the spots 3 intermediate the corners of the innermost the circle upon which the spots are arran ed. Straight lines 10 extend between the, ines radiating from the center spot 5 including the spots at the corn'ers of the squares. Straight lines 11 connect the spots 5 3 at the corners of the innermost square with, the proximate spots 2 of the second lines 12.
As will be seen from t e foregoing depoint or center spot 5 and a plurality of game, the players are seated at opposite sides player, ten in number, are disposed upon the spots 1 and 2 at the sides of the two outermost squares nearest the respective players. In playing the-game, the object is to move as many men to center or toward center-as possible and to kee them as near center as -possible until the c ose of the round. Each player is entitled to one move in' rotation -moving onl one spot at each turn. I Moves may be ma e on straight lines. Jumps may be made whenever possible and are compulsory when demanded of a player by his Patented July 5, 1910. Application filed larch 21, 1810. Serial 110. 550,751. d I 7 while the spots 7 and 6 are likewise disposed- Each ofthe s ts 6 is connected with the spots 3 interme iate the Y 8, 8 areiconnected' to ether in series by ar-- uare is connected with the proximate s ots '7 y straight lines 9 which are tan entia to square, and the spots at the sid$ of the several squares are connected by straight scription, the field includ s the objective vspots arranged in symmetrical order and .mark, such as the "letter V. In playing the 'of thegame board and the mar ers of each opponent, unless the pla er has a man or booster in center; then e must move or jump the man or booster which is in center.- The player may take his-choice of jumps when two or more are possible at one-time. When a man is moved or j umped into center, it mustbe moved or jumped at the players next turn of playing and not until then.
The man is then turned over with the reverse side bearing the distin V uppermost and is t en terme a booster. If a booster is jumped into center, and it is possible to jump out during the same turn, he may do so, and this is the only privilege to which a booster is entitled over .he'ordinary ieces. When a man or booster 1s 1n center, 1s op onent may ump him if *possible. A roun ceases when one player ponent.
loses all but one man or booster. No player can jump the last man or booster of his op- -When 'a round is finished, each players score is counted by .the men and boosters he has left on the board. I For the purpose of illustration, the center spot hasbeen marked V, the innermost circle, III, the second circle, II, and the outermost circle, I, and the game is counted as follows. A manon the outermost circle counts one'point second circle, two points, on the third circle, three points, and inthe center spot, five points, while a booster on the outermost cir- 'cle counts six points, on the second circle,
seven points, on the third or innermost circle, eight points, and in the center s ot, ten points. An ordinary man or iece-outside the outermost circle is not inc uded, but a booster outside the outermost circle counts five vpoints.
Any desired number of points that mag be previously agreed upon may constitute game.
- It will be seen from therforegoing that a game has been provided which is sim le and easily understood, that it will rea ily be learnedsby-children, as well as byadults, and
. at the same time it has been found that conuishing fi ure on; the
siderable skill and ingenuity may be exercised in playing the game.
Havin t us described the invention, what is claime as new,'is:
1. A time board containinga centerspot, a plura ity of field spots arran ed in several concentric series, and a plum ity of field spots'arranged .on the lines of concentric squares inclosing the circumferential series 0 field spots.
2. A game board having a center spot, a
plurality of field spots arranged in concentric series around the center spot, a plurality of field spots arranged on the lines of squares inclosing the concentric series of field spots, and strai ht and arcuate lines connecting the severa series of spots.
3. A game board having a center spot constituting an objective point, series of field s' ots radiating from the center spot and I lsposed in concentricseries with reference to the latter, additional series of field spots arranged on the lines of squares inclosing the concentric series of field spots, an
straight and arcuate lines constituting parts of concentric circles and squares, connectin having a distinguishing mark upon its re-' ace verse n t istimony whereof I ailix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
