ALBERT F. ALLEN, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
Letters Patent No. 96,298, dated November 2,1869.
IMPROVED SHOT-POUCH.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT F. ALLEN, of the city and county of Providence, and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Shot- Pouches; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, mak ing part of this specification, in which- Figure. 1 is a view of my improved shot-pouch externally, and
Figure 2 is a cross-section of the same, showing its internal arrangement. Similar letters indicate like parts in all the figures.
My invention consists in constructing the shot-pouch with a uumber'of separate compartments for containing different sizes of shot, and a shifting-gate, by means of which communication is opened between either compartment and the charger which receives and delivers the requisite quantity of shot from the pouch, so that several sizes of shot may be carried in and drawn from one pouch, either in assorted or mixed charges, as may be desired.
In the said drawings- B is the pouch, made of leather, in two parts, and sewed together at the-edges Z- Z, in the usual way.
P is a partition, of leather or other material, extending through the middle of the pouch, and dividing it into two compartments, G and D, said partition 'being sewed into the edges l of the pouch.
In the neck of the pouch is secured a metal tube,
' h, by screws 0 0, within which there is fitted another tube, f, which is closed to the extent of half its area at the bottom by the gate N, which covers also the entrance g to one of the compartments, leaving the other, d, open, and communicating with the charger H.
This gate is shifted to open the entrance g and close entrance (1 by turning the tube f half round, and said tube is held in either position by means of a spring stud, s, passing through both the outer tube h and inner tube f.
In like manner, the shot-pouch may be divided into four separate compartments by extending another partition at right angles with partition P, and making the said gate to cover three-quarters of the area of the tube f, with the other quarter open to communicate with one of the said compartments and allow the shot to pass therefrom into the charger.
Otherforms of gates may also be devised for opening communication with one compartment, while others remain closed.
I claim the combination of a gate with a manychambered shot pouch and charger, whereby the mouths of all but one of the chambers are closed,
either of which may be opened at will by means of
