Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed December 1, 1909. Serial No. 530,755.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE ARTHUR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Egg-Testers, of which the following is a specication.
My invention relates to egg testers and has for its object the production of a device of such character adapted to facilitate the expeditious and thorough testing of eggs.
A further object 1s the provision of a device of the character mentioned which will be of the highest possible efficiency, and which will be simple and economical of construction.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
vWith these objects in view my invention consists in an egg tester characterized as above mentioned and in certain details of construction and arrangement of parts all as will be hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
My invention will be more readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which,

Referring now to the drawings l indicates the body of my device which is simply a rectangular box comprising a bottom 2, side members 3, and end members 4; and 4:. Hav-` ing its longitudinal edges slidably mounted in grooves 5 provided in the inner surface of the side members 3 adjacent the upper edges thereof is a top member 6. Provided in said top member is a plurality of circular openings 7 arranged therein, preferably in rows, as shown. Each of said openings 6 is of a diameter slightly less than the greatest minor diameter of an ordinary egg, whereby each is evidently adapted to support an egg as shown in dotted lines in Figs. 2 and 3. Arranged within the body l is an obheld in such position by reason of its eX- trernity 9 resting against the inner surface of the end wall 4 of the body. The edge l() of the top member 6 is spaced from the upper edge of the body end-wall 4 whereby a transversely extending elongate narrow opening 1l is provided in the upper side of said body adjacent the end wall 4. I-Iaving its lower end portion extending through said opening the same extending upwardly therefrom and being supported by having offsets 12 provided at its ends resting upon the upper edges of the side members 3, is an inclined tubular sighting tube 13. Said tube is preferably rectangular in cross section and is of such dimensions as to snugly fit the opening l1, the adjacent or contacting edges of said top and end wall being preferably inclined, as shown in Fig. 2, to facilitate such engagement between said sighting tube and said opening. Said sighting tube and the mirror 8 are so disposed relative to each other that by placing the eyes at the upper end of said tube the images of the eggs supported in the top member 6, when the device is in use, will be reflected by the mirror thereto, as shown by broken lines in Fig. 2. Provided in the end wall A slightly above the edge 9 of the mirror 8 and parallelly eX- tending thereto is a slit 14 through which a ray of light may pass to suiiiciently light up the reflecting surface of the mirror so that the images of the eggs reflected therefrom may be distinguished.
IVhile I have shown what I deem to be the preferable form of my device I do not wish to be limited thereto as there might be various changes made in the details of construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of my invention comprehended within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
