AXEL SWARIN, OF NEW LONDON, CONNECTICUT.
DESK-PAD.
Speccaton of Letters Patent.
Patented June 28, 1910.
Application filed March 9, 1910. Serial No. 548,267.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AXEL SWARIN, a citi- Zen of the United States, residing at New London, in the county of New London and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Desk-Pads, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has reference to desk pads and is designed particularly to construct a pad wherein a blotter is retained therein, said blotter having the various months of the calendar impressed thereon at each eX- tremity thereof.
A further object of this invention is to construct a means of retaining the blotter which will form a frame for the calendar portion of said blotter, and which will be secured to the base board in such a manner that the under surface of said base board will be ush.
With the above and other objects in view, this invention consists of the construction, combination and arrangement of parts all as hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is an elevation illustrating the general construction of the present invention with the blotter removed; Fig. 2 is a fragmental elevation; Fig. 3 is a section taken along line 3-3 of Fig. 2; Fig. 4: is a' section taken along line 4 4 of Fig. 2; Fig. 5 is an elevation illustrating the manner in which the under pieces are secured to the base board.
Reference being had to the drawings, 10 indicates the base board of the pad, said base board being of any suitable shape, size or material. A lower base board 11 coperates with said base board 10 and is approximately the same width as said base board, but does not extend the complete length thereof, thus forming the transverse slot or depression 13 in combination with the base board. Each corner of the lower base board 11 is cut away to form the recesses 12, said recesses forming a continuation of the depression 13.
The transverse end pieces 111 are so constructed that the same comprise the frame portion 15 at each extremity of which is the flap 16, said flap being adapted to pass under the base board 10 and be pasted or similarly secured in the recess 12. A longitudinal lip is formed on one side of the frame piece and is likewise bent over the base board 10 and secured in the depression 13. A finishing sheet 18 is pasted to the lower base board 11 after the end pieces are in position and consequently the bottom of the pad presents a smooth and finished surface due to the provision of the recesses 12 and the depressions 13.
A blotter 19 is secured under the end pieces 14 and has the months of the calendar arranged transversely thereon at each eX- tremity thereof, said months being adapted to be engaged by the frame portion 15.
From the foregoing, it will readily be seen that, in a pad of this character, a plurality of blotters may be printed wherein the months of the year appear thereon, and as fast as one blotter becomes soiled, it may be replaced at a comparatively small expense.
Having thus described my invention, what is claimed as new is:
An article of manufacture comprising a base board, a secondary base board coperating therewith, said secondary base board' being cut away at each corner thereof to form a recess and falling short of the complete length of the main base board, thereby forming a transverse depression, and end pieces comprising a frame portion, a lip engaged by said depression, and flaps engaged by said recesses, all of said members resting flush with said secondary base board.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
AXEL SWARIN.
