HERMANN KNOPPING, OF BERLIN, GERMANY.
ALBUM.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 28, 1910.
Application filed January 3, 1910. Serial No. 536,215.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, HERMANN KNOPPING, a subject of the German Emperor, and residing at Berlin, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Albums, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to view or post-card albums, and a primary object is to provide an album comprising stereoscopic pictures and a folding stereoscope, which can be completely inserted into the album, for viewing the pictures, the album when closed representing a post-card.
One illustrative embodiment of my invention is represented by way of example in the accompanying drawing wherein Figure l is a perspective view showing the open album ready for use, Fig. 2 a section through the closed album in the plane tb in Fig. 1, Fig. 3 shows in perspective the attachment of the stereoscope in the album, and Fig. 4 the closed album with the stereoscope pushed in half way.
Referring to the drawing, my improved album comprises two covers 1 and 2 which are stuck together directly at the rear edge 3 and at the two narrow sides at, 4 by inserting a narrow strip 5 of pasteboard. I may, however, make the covers out of one connected piece of cardboard and stick them together only at the two narrow sides as described.
Cover 1 is for the address and communications, and cover 2 carries a view or picture. This cover 2 is cut open along the lines 6, 7, 8, 9 and on its rear side 10 is a stereoscopic picture. At the fold 11 are attached an optional number of leaves 12, 13, let, 15 which likewise carry stereoscopic pictures.
Between the two covers 1, 2 is normally inserted a card 17, 19 folded at 16 whose one portion 17 can be placed at right angles to the other 19 by means of a known folding pasteboard support 18. Portion 17 has two apertures 20 in front of which stereoscopic glasses are mounted. To prevent card 17, 19 coming out of the chamber or space be tween the covers 1, 2 I provide in part 19 slits 21 through which is drawn a strip of paper 22 stuck at its ends and center to cover 1. The album is closed by a number of lugs 24L on cover 2 being held under the front edge 25 of cover 2.
My album is used as follows :By pulling the paper handle or flap 23 attached to the stereoscopic device this is withdrawn from the covers 1, 2 until part 17 can be placed upright with the aid of support 18. The album proper is then opened by raising cover 2 and now, every stereoscopic picture can be observed in turn through the stereoscopic glasses 20.
The album is preferably folded together by first inserting the stereoscopic device and then closing the album.
I claim 1. A View or picture album, comprising in combination, two covers joined together at the rear and sides, one of said covers being cut along three sides, and adapted to be folded at the fourth side of a rectangle and being provided with a stereoscopic picture, a folding stereoscope normally between said covers and adapted to be partially withdrawn therefrom and used for viewing said picture.
2 A view or picture album, comprising in combination, two covers joined together at the rear and sides, one of said covers being out along three sides, and adapted to be folded at the fourth side of a rectangle and being provided with a stereoscopic picture, a plurality of leaves having stereoscopic pictures each attached at the fold of the cut cover, a folding stereoscope normally between said covers and adapted to be partially withdrawn therefrom and used for viewing said pictures.
3. A view or picture album, comprising in combination, two covers joined together at the rear and sides, one of said covers being out along three sides, and adapted to be folded at the fourth side of a rectangle and being provided with a stereoscopic picture, a folding stereoscope normally between said covers, and means attached to one of said covers movably attaching said stereoscope thereto.
4. A view or picture album, comprising in combination, two covers joined together at the rear and sides, one of said covers being cut along three sides, and adapted to of paper attached to one of said covers be folded at the fourth side of a rectangle and threaded through the slits in said and being provided With a stereoscopic stereoscope.
picture, a plurality of leaves'having stereo- HERMANN KNOPPING scopic pictures each attached at the fold of Witnesses: the cut cover, a slit, fording stereoscope HENRY HASPER,
normally between said covers and a strip WOLDEMAR HAUPT.
