Description

ntml mes THOMAS NELSON, or PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.l d
` Letters Patent No. 96,261, dated October- 26, 1869.
IMPROVE!) 4TOOL FOR CUTTING TUBES.
The Schedule referred 'to in these Letters Patenf and making part of the same' To all whom it may concerny Be Yit known that I, THOMAS NELSON, of Phiiznilel` phia, in the county of Philadelphia, and- State of Penn Sylvania, have invented'a new and useful Improvement in Machines for Cutting Iron Pipe,`known as Nelsons Improved Ppe-Cutter; and I do hereby declare that the followingl is la full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the .annexed drawings.
This machine consists of' an iron frame, in which a knife is moved by means of a screw. It is of suicient size to permit its revolving around the pipe while cutting it, the knife being pressed down by the screw during the cutting, as occasion requires.
The body or frame consists of three pieces, and is made of wrought-iron or any other suitable material. These pieces consist of a frame prbaek', A, and two side pieces, B B', as shown in Figures 1 and 2 of the drawing.
At the top of the machine, anopening is made, for the admission of. theA screw C, which operates the knife.
The side pieces are removable, for the purpose of taking out the knife D, when desirable, or while not 1n use.
At the base of the 'machine are two oval jaw-fac.
ings, E E', vplanted. lsideby side, and held in place byI able machine, for holdingit firmly, and the machine is placed upon it, so that the pipe passes into the opening O, resting upon the jaw-faeings E-E. The knife being screwed tightly down, anclpressing upon the pipe, the upper part of the machineis then grasped and revolved, thev operator screwing the knife gradually' down, until thepipe .is cut through.
Having thus described-my invention, What I claim, andA desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
Gonstructing apipefcutting `machine of the several pieces 'A B B', the screw' C, knife D, and jaW-fac-ings.
E E', in the manner Vset forth.
' l rIHOS. NELSON.
