As is shown in Fig. 2, the outer drum is suspended from the top of the inner drum so that there is considerable space between said drums at their bottom, which space obviously decreases as the tops' ofsaid drums are reached. And it will also be seen that the bars 11 and 13. of said drums interengage similar to teeth of gear wheels so that when said inner drum-is rotated by means of the shaf 4, rotary movement of the same will be. communicated to the outer'drum.

This invention relates to washing machines, and the principal object thereof is to provide the same with novel means whereby the articles to be washed are held on a rotating drum and subzne'rged in the bottom of a tank and then-carried to the upper portion of the tank where the are subjected to a rubbing. and squeezing operation to clean the same and also force thev water therefrom, the operation of sulnnerging and rubbing and squeezing of the articles being continued by the rotation of said drum until they are thoroughly cleaned.

lVhat I claim as my invention is 1. A Washing machine comprising a. base, standards carried thereby, a shaft journaled in the upper end 'of said standards, a tank loosely. mounted on said shaft, a drum fastened on said shaft within said tank, and a second drum surrounding and suspended by said first mentioned drutn.

A washing machine comprising a tank, a rotatable. drum therein provided with an exterior rubbing surface, and a second drum surrounding the first mentioned drum and providedwvith an internal rubbing and arti-' cle holding surface, said drums being arf ranged within said tank so that. articles carried by the. surrounding drum will be squeezed between the same andthe rotatable} drum at the upper portion of the tank, and" separated irom the rotatable drum .at. the 15 lower portion of the tank.
