'Be it known that I, S'rr HEN F. Enxms, a citizen of the United Sta s, residing at Pittsburg, in thecourit of Allegheny-and State of Pennsylvania, ave invented a new and useful Shade-Holder for Inverted Gas-Burners, of which the following is a specification.

. The invention relates to improvements in shade holdersfor inverted gas burners.

The object of the present invention is to improve the construction of shade holders forinverted gas lamps, and to provide a s mple, inexpensive and eflicient supporting ring, adaptedtosupport an outer shade an an inner cylinder or chimney 1n spaced'relation, and provided withmeans for permitting a free passage of air through the space betweenthe outer shade and inner cylinder, whereby thebrilliancy of the light is increased and-the outer-shade is maintained suilicientlycool to prevent it from becoming l/Vith these and other obj its in view, the invention consists in the construction and novel combination of parts hereinafter fully -described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and

v The supporting ring is provided at the top with an inwardly extending annular flange 7, having an inner inclined portion'8, forming a seat for an inner cylinder or. chimney 9, which is supported in spaced relation with the outer shade, as clearly illustrated in Fig. l of the drawing. The hori-- zontal portion of the annular flange 7 is provided with an annular series of vent apertures 10, adapted to permit the hot air to venlng space between the inner cylinder or chimney and, the outer shade. .The maintaining of an upward current of air through the said space and. a constant changing of air between the outer shade and the inner cylinder prevents any accumulation of the heat 1produced by the burner, and the outer Sllfit e is maintained in arela lively cool condition; so that there is nodanger ofits being broken through unequal expansion produced by sudden drafts of air on portions of it. Also the upward current .of air through the space between the inner i cylinder and the outer sl1a(le pre\-'cnts sudden drafts from striking the mantle and interfering with proper combustion.

The supporting ring is provided at inter vals with integral tongues 11, extending upwardly and outwardly and engaging the upper edge of the outer shade, and adapted to maintain the same on the lower scatformed by the outwardly extending bottom flange; The'tongue engages-the outer shade with sullicient force to sustain the supporting ringand the inner cylinder when handling the devioe by the outer shade in fitting the ring ,to and removingthesaine from a burner. i

3 A shade holder consisting of a ring provided with exterior means for supporting an outer shade and having an inwardly extending flange forming a seat and arranged to hold a chimney or cylinder in spaced relation with the outer shade, said flange being also provided with apertures to permit the passage ofair through the space between the outer shade and the inner chimney or cylinder.

A shade holder consisting of a ring provided with exterior means for supporting an outer shade and having an inwardly extending annular flange composed oi an outer horizontal portion and an inner inclined portion forming a seat for a chimney flange and having 'an inwardly extending annular flange at the top, the inwardly extending flange being provided with an inner downwar ly inclined ortion toform a seat for a chimney or cyiinder, the top. flange being also provided with apertures to permit the passage of air through the ring.

A shade holder consisting of a supporting ring constructed of a single piece ofmetal and provided at its lower edge with- :inoutwardly extending shade supporting flange and having an annular groove above the said flange .to receive the clamping devices of'a burner, said ringbcing also provided at the top with aninwardly extendingannular flange having an inner downwardly inclined portion to form 'a seat-for a chimney or cylinder, the top flange being also pro-- vided with aperturesto permit" the passage of'air through the ring.\ n
