W. V. GIST.
BOLT HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED T11R12, 1910.

ANDREW a Gamma co, FMOTO-UTNUGRAPKERS WASNINGTON, 0.0
UNITED STA WILLIAM V. GIST, OF SPARTA, TENNESSEE.
BOLT-HOLDER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM V. GIST, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sparta, in the county of \Vhite, State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bolt-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to bolt holders and is particularly adapted for holding round head bolts employed in wagon constructions, although the same may be utilized with equal facility in holding bolts of various formations in various lines of work.
The object of the invention resides in the construction of a bolt holder which coIn prises a stem or handle and a hook member adapted to be detachably secured to said handle in various adjusted relations whereby said holder may be utilized in engaging bolts which are mounted in different sizes of material.
A further object of the invention is the provision of an adjustable spur 011 the handle of said holder and improved construction generally.
lVith these and other objects in view the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, and in which;
Figure 1 is a plan view of a bolt holder constructed in accordance with the invention; Fig. :2, a side elevation partly in section; Fig. 3, a detail view of the hook member of the holder.
Referring to the drawings, the holder is shown as comprising a handle A, the outer portion of which is squared as at 5 and a spur 6 provided with a squared aperture 7 is adjustably mounted on the squared portion 5 of the handle A. The engaging end of the spur is provided with an angular recess 6 for enabling the same to more effectually grip the head of a bolt. Said handle has its outer end bent to form the ofiset terminal 8 having a reduced extrem- Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed February 12, 1910.
Patented June '7, 1910. Serial No. 543,587.
ity comprising a squared inner portion 9 and a threaded outer portion 10, Mounted on the squared portion 9 is the hook mem ber 11 of the tool the stem 12 of which is provided with a vertically disposed series of apertures 13 adapted to receive the squared portion 9 of the terminal 8 whereby the outer end of said hook member may be adjusted toward and away from the handle 8 in order to permit the tool to be operated in connection with various sizes of bolt carrying materials. The hook member 11 is} held against disengagement from the handle A when mounted thereon through the medium of a nut 14; working on the threaded portion 10.
\Vhile I have described and shown one form of the invention it will be noted that same may be altered in various ways with out in any manner departing from the scope thereof as set forth in the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. A bolt holder comprising a handle bar having one of its ends formed with a squared inner portion and a threaded outer portion, a hook member having its shank provided with a plurality of squared apertures adapted to receive the squared inner portion of the end of the handle bar whereby said hook member may be secured to said handle bar in varying adjustments, a nut mounted on the threaded end of the handle bar for securing the hook member thereto and a spur mounted on the handle bar intermediate its ends.
2. A bolt holder comprising a handle bar having one of its terminals offset and provided with a squared inner portion and a threaded outer portion, a hook member having its shank provided with a series of squared apertures adapted to receive the squared portion of the offset terminal whereby said hook member may be connected to the handle bar in varying adjustments, a nut mounted on the threaded portion of said terminal for locking the hook member thereto, and a spur mounted on. the handle bar intermediate one end and said offset terminal.
In testimony whereof, I aifix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
