My invention relates to improvements in auton'iobile license-tag holders and has for its object to provide a convenient and etficient device of this character which shall be inexpensive of construction and of neat appearance.

A further object of my invention is to rovide a device adapted to mom in position icense-tags of difl'crent sizes as readily as license-tags of a uniform size.

Other objects will appear hereinafter.

\ Vith these objects in view my invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

My invention further consists in a modified form of holder which possesses certain features in common with the preferred form.

My invention will be more readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which,

Referring now to the drawings, 1 designates a rectangular license-tag and 2.0 a hangcrwilich may be connected to the bod y of an automobile (not shown) in any suitable manner. 01' the hanger may be dispensed. with and the holder bolted directly to a body panel or other part ofthe automobile. 1

'The preferred form of license-tag holder comprises a body portion 3 and slotted socuring moml'lers 4 and 5 adjustably secured thereto, said body portion and said lll0lllhers having edges bent over to engage the edges 'of the license-tag 1. The horizontal lower edge 6 of the body 3 is bent to receive the lower edge of the license-tag and the upper edges 7 parallel with the lower edge 6 are bent over formin two hooks 8 which embrace the horizonta ly disposed adj ustable members 4, as shown in Fig. 3 and by dotted lines in Fig. 2. A centrally disposed upwardly extending portion 9' is provided with lips 10 formed on the lateral edges thereof which embrace the vertically disposed slotted member 5 which lips serve as guides for said member. A bolt 11 passes through the slots of the members at and 5 and a perforation 13 provided in the body portion 3, said members being arranged relative to each other, as shown in Fig. 3, and interposed between the body portion 3 and the license-tag 1. After the members 4 and 5 are adjusted to hold any iven licensetag the thumb-nut 14 provided on the bolt 11 is tightened, thus securing the license-tag in position. It will be noted that the slotted portions of the members 4 and .5 are much narrower than. the outer extremities or ed 'es thereof which are made of considerabl e extent to secure a good grip on the edges of the license-tag.

Centrally formed on the body portion 3 is a circular plate 15 having a central threaded stud 16 disposed perpendicular thereto and on which the nut 17 is adapted to screw. The face of the plate 15 is formed into radial teeth, and two diametrically opposite perforations lo are provided in said face equi-distant from the center thereof to receive pins 18 provided in'the plate 19 of the hanger 20. The plate 19 is formed with teeth similar to the plate 15, the teeth of one plate being adapted to mesh with those of the other to. prevent relative rotation of said plates. The pins 18 formed on the plate 15) are slightly smaller than the perforations l5"of the plate 15 and are adapted to enter the latter when the plates are sccured together. as shown in Fig. 5,'the function of said pins being to aidthe teeth of the plates in preventing relative rotation thereof. The stud 1!; passes through the central perforations of the plate 19, and when the nut 17 is secured tightly thereon the plates 15 and 19 are rigidly secured to each other and the holderhold firmly in position.
