COMBINED MOP HEAD AND WRINGER.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES GABEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hawkeye, in the county of Fayette and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Mop Heads and WVringers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

My present invention relates to improvements in combined mop heads and wringers, and has special reference to a new and improved form of mop head and wringing device, which is detachably mounted upon the stick, and at all times detachably connected to the mop.

To attain these objects, my invention consists of a mop substantially as shown and described, and as is particularly shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a view of a mop, with the wringer in operation. Fig. 2 is a view of the mop in use, the wringer being in the position it assumes after wringing. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the wringer detached.

Referring to the drawings :The numeral 1 designates the stick, which has secured upon one end thereof by means of the rivets 2, the two members 3, each one of which is provided with the T-shaped head, 4, whose fiat portions 5, are secured together by means of the rivets 6, each head being provided with the outwardly projecting flanges 7, which provide the groove for the reception of the wire 8. The outer ends of the flanges are bent as at 9, to form guidingchannels or recesses for the vertical rods 10, of the wire binder 8, these rods, being further provided with the integral intermediate coils 11, and the inwardly bent terminals 12, having the hooks 13, which engage the lugs 14, of the operating lever 15. This lever is provided with the two eyed ends 16, which fit upon the oppositely disposed trunnions 17, each one of which is formed from a portion of each member 3, that is composed of the two semi-circular portions a and b. The lever is cut-away as at 18, so that the same will properly straddle the stick, so that the handle 19 of the lever may be operated to operate the binder 8, to hold the mop 20 in place.

movably mounted upon a mop stick, and which will effectually wring the mop, I provide the split spring impinging or clamping sleeve 32, which fits upon and grips the stick 1, and is provided with the lugs or supports 33 and 34:. The lug or support 3 1 is provided with the elongated slightly curved opening 35, while the lug or support 33, is provided with the alined circular openin 36.

Mounted in the alined openings 35 and 36, is a spiral ribbon or screw 37, upon one end of which is swiveled the operating handle 38, while upon the other end is mounted the mop engaging device 39, which is an auger shaped device 40.

As shown in Fig. 1, the wringer is in the position it assumes when wringing the mop, the screw 37 being pulled toward the handle of the stick, while in Fig. 2, the wringer is out of use, so that the mop may be used, in this instance, the screw 37 has been pushed toward the mop head. It will be seen that by pulling upon the screw 37, the screw is turned, this action twisting the mop, so as to wring it, and that by pushing upon the screw 37, the screw is turned in the reverse direction, untwisting the mop and allowing it to be loose for mopping.

This wringing device, as will be clearly understood, may be used upon any form of mop, and by being made detachable, and the sleeve 32, split as at 32, various diametered sticks may be employed, as the split sleeve will adapt itself to any stick, and at the same time securely clamp the device in proper position for use.

What I claim, as new, is

The combination with a stick and a mop clamp thereon, of a wringing device carried upon the stick intermediate of the ends of the stick, and consisting of a split sleeve adapted to surround and detachably grip the stick, a spiral screw slidably supported by said sleeve, means carried upon one end of the screw to engage the mop, and means upon the other end for operating the screw.
