To all 'whom it may concern:

Be 1t known that I, GEORGE DINGMAN, a

.citizen of the United States, residing at Penn, in the county of Ramsey and State of North Dakota, have invented a new and useful Screen; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

The invention about to be set forth pertains to a new and useful door and window screen, and the fundamental principles of the invention embody various objects, among others to be attained, comprising a door or window screen having angular metallic guidino` strips, so disposed as to direct the course of1 flies as they approach an opening at the top of the door orv window screen, as will be clearly manifest. Flies invariably, by instinct, travel an upward course, upon a vertical or approximately vertical surface, hardly ever assuming a downward course, as is evident.

The invention directs as a further object, essentially, to provide angularly disposed strips of wood or other material fixed upon the inside of the screen adjacent to the top, to which the angular metallic strips are secured, and also to which the screening is securely fastened.

The invention aims as a further object to provide an opening adjacent to the apex of said strips, which is provided with a thimble having a fiange, which is secured between the screening and the strips.

The invention sets forth as a further object to provide the angular metallic strips with a fiange, which assists materially in directing the course of the flies, that is to say, the flies will travel under the flange, in preference to walking upon the same, as will be evident.

This invent-ion comprises further objects and combinations of elements, which will be hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings, and the novel features thereof will be pointed out by the appended claim.

The features, elements and the arrangement thereof, which constitute the above entitled invention, may be changed and varied in an actual reduction to practice with the understanding that the' changes and varian tions accruing from said reduction to prac- Speceaton of Letters Patent.

To obtain a full and correct understanding of the details of construction, combinations of features, elements and advantages, reference is to be had to the hereinafter set forth description and the accompanying drawings in connection therewith, wherein Figure l is a perspective view of a door or window screen, embodying the principal features of the invention, namely, the angular metallic strips, the angularly disposed strips of wood or other material, and the thimble lined opening. Fig. 2 is an enlarged perspective View of the upper portion of a door or window screen, embodying the features as shown in Fig. l, but looking slightly upward so as to clearly illustrate the thimble lined opening and the flanges of the angular metallic strips. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional View taken through the screen and the thimble 5, on line 3 3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of one of the angular metallic strips, and one of the angularly disposed strips of wood. Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of the thimble form lining for said opening.

In regard to the drawings, wherein similar reference characters indicate correspondn ing parts in the several illustrations, by flgures, l designates the rectangular framing of the door or Window screen, upon which is stretched the usual screening Q, as seen clearly in Figs. l and 2 of the drawings. Disposed upon the inside of the door or window screen, adjacent to its top, are strips of wood or other material 3, which are disposed at opposite inclinations to one another and angularly to the top of the door or window screen frame, as seen clearly in the drawings. The screening 2 is provided with an opening 4, at the apex of these strips of wood or other material, in which a thimble 5 is disposed, which thimble is provided with a flange 6 which extends part way around the periphery of said thimble, and which is fixed or disposed between the screening and the said strips of wood or other material, and to which strips of wood or other material the screening 2 is suitably stapled, or otherwise fastened thereto. To direct the course of ffies, as they approach the thimlole lined opening, angular metallic strips 7 are fastened to the strips of wood or other material, as at 8, as shown clearly in Figs. 1,

2 and 3 of the drawings. These angular `in directing the course of the flies, as they are approaching the said opening; and they are further provided with flanges 10, under which the flies will travel, in preference to walking upon the same, or thereover.

From the foregoing, the essential features, elements and the operation of the device, together with the simplicity thereof, will be clearly apparent.

Having thus fully described the invention, what is claimed as new and useful, by the protection of Letters Patent, is

In a device as set forth, a door or window screen frame having angularly disposed strips adjacent to its upper portion to form an apex, a screening secured to the frame having an opening therein adjacent to said apex, a conical shaped thimble disposed in said opening and provided with a semi-annular flange positioned between the screening and the upper portion of the said strips and the window frame, screws penetrating the screening, the flange and the frame and strips, said angularly disposed strips having angular metallic strips providedA withv oppositely disposed downward extensions and flanges, as and for the purpose specified, In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
