SHOE-P OLISHING DEVICE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, IRVIN H. COOPER, a citizen of the United States, residing at South Bend, in the county of St. Joseph and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shoe-Polishing Devices, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to shoe polishing frames and foot rests, and its principal object is to provide a novel arrangement of rollers for the cloth used in polishing shoes so that the polishing of various parts of shoes may be simplified and expedited.
In carrying out the objects of the invention generally stated above, it will be understood, of course, that the essential features thereof are necessarily susceptible of changes in details and structural arrangements, but a preferred and practical embodiment thereof is shown in the accompanying drawings wherein:

Referring to said drawings by numerals, 1 designates the base of the improved foot rest, the bottom of which is flat so that it will rest firmly on a floor or other surface. The top of said base is flat at its intermediate portion and its ends 2 and 3 are raised to provide rests for the toe and heel of the shoe. Openings 4 may be formed through the base for fasteners to rigidly attach the foot rest to a support if desired.
A pair of vertically-arranged flat sided standards 5 are carried by said foot rest, said standards being disposed on opposite sides of the rear end. The lower portion of each standard has a broad rearwardly-projecting extension 6 forming an car, through which openings 7 are formed for the screws or other detachable fasteners 8 to pass and fasten each standard to opposite sides of said foot rest. A forwardly-projecting lug 9 is carried by the front of the lower portion of each standard, said lug having a horizontal bearing opening 10 formed through its front face, and a vertical opening 11 formed through its top. standard carries a forwardly-projecting overhanging bearing plate 11* which alines with the opening 11 of the lug 9, and in said alined opening and plate the endg of a ver tical roller 13 are journaled.
A plate it extends across the front end of the base of the foot rest and is detachably held thereon by means of the screws 15 or other detachable fasteners. The ends of said plate project beyond the sides of said base and each carries a bearing 16, which bearings aline with the bearing openings 10 e of said lugs 9. Horizontal rollers 17 have their ends journaled in the alined bearings 10 and 16. Preferably, the base 1 tapers horizontally so that the toe end is the narrower part.
It will be seen from the foregoing that the arrangement of the rollers is such that the polishing cloth has ample clearance between the standards and the vertical rollers, and between the base and the horizontal rollers so that there' is no danger of the edges of either the standards or base tearing the cloth.
Another prominent feature of the invention is in the manner of forming the bearing openings in the lugs 9. As will be seen, by reference to Fig. 3, the vertical openings 11 extend entirely through the lugs and are intersected by the longitudinal openings 10 so that when the rollers are in position the lower end of the vertical rollers rest upon the rear end of the horizontal rollers.
To disassemble the foot rest, the front plate 14L is detached, which permits the horizontal rollers to be removed from the lugs, whereupon the vertical rollers will drop through said lugs. This arrangement of the bearing openings in the lugs also facilitates replacing the rollers as will be readily understood.
What I claim as my invention is:
1. A device of the character described, comprising a base, a standard carried by each side thereof adjacent the rear end, a lug carried by each standard and provided with a vertical and a horizontal bearing opening,a plate carried by each standard and provided with a bearing opening in alinement with said vertical opening, a roller having its ends journaled in said alinedopenings, a plate extending across the front end of said base and projecting beyond each side thereof, bearings carried by the projecting portions of said plate, and rollers having their ends journaled in said bearings and the horizontal openings of said lugs.
2. A device of the character described, comprising a base, oppositely disposed standards adjacent the rear end thereof, a lug at the base of each standard and provided with intersecting vertical and horizontal openings, a cap plate at the top of each standard provided with a bearing in alinement with said vertical opening, a roller journaled in said bearing and vertical opening, bearings projecting from the side of the front portion of said base and alining with the horizontal openings of said lugs, and rollers journaled in said alined horizontal openings and bearings.
3. A device of the character described, comprising a base, oppositely disposed vertically-arranged standards carried by the longitudinal sides of said base adjacent the rear end, an overhanging bearing plate carried by the upper end of each standard, a lug carried by the lower portion of each standard and provided with a bearing opening in alinement with said bearing plate and with a horizontal bearing opening, bearings projecting laterally from the front end of said base and alining with said horizontal bearing openings, vertical rollers journaled in the alined bearing plates, and vertical openings, and horizontal rollers journaled in the alined projecting bearings and horizontal openings.
4. A device of the character described, comprising a base, a vertically-arranged standard carried by each side of said base, said standards being oppositely disposed, a bearing plate carried by the upper end of each standard, a lug carried by the lower end thereof, said lugs eachhaving a vertical opening which alines with said bearing plate and an intersecting horizontal opening, a roller having one end mounted in said bearing plate and its other end in said vertical opening, a horizontal roller having one end in said horizontal opening and supporting said first-mentioned roller, and a bearing plate projecting from said base for the other end of said horizontal roller.
