To all whom it may concern:
-Be it known that I, CHARLES S. Smirr'om), a citizen of the United States, resid blank of sheet material, such, for exam Is,
as asteboard, the parts of the blank being fol ed and secured together in a manner to form the box.
The object-of my invention is to provide a box "of novel, simple and efiicient construction' having an. aperture formed therein in com ination with a sliding closure or cover for the aperture, the parts of the box being constructed to receive and guide the sliding closure or cover and hold it in place.
Theinvention consists-in the novelconstructionand combinations of parts which will be," hereinafter fully described and claimed. l In the drawings :-Figure 1 is a perspective vie'w of my nnprovedbox, showing the g shdmg cover or closure in place thereon and closing the aperture. Fi 2 is a perspective vlew similar to Fig. 1, s owing the sliding cover or'closure removed from the box and exposing the aperture. Fig. 3 is a vertical .section on line 3'3 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a vertical section on line 4-4 of Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a view of the top of the box as shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the closure. Fig. 7 is a View of the upper portion of the blank of sheet materialfrom which the box illustrated in the preceding figures is constructed. Fig. 8 is a View of the u per portion of a blank from which a modi cation of my invention may be constructed.
5 and 7 desi ate the front and back walls res ectively o the box, 8 and 9 the side we thereof, and 13 the bottom of the box.
14 designates the main top or cover for the box, and 15, a supplemental top or cover arranged above the main cover 14. The main cover 14 is provided with an aperture 16 therein, by means of which access may be had to the interior of the box for filling the box or removing the contents therefrom, as desiged. The supplemental cover 15 is provided with an opening 1-7;therein above the aperture-16, so. that "the'supplemental cover may extend laterally of the aperture 16 without obstructing the -.latter. The .lateral edges of .the supplemental cover 15 are connected to the box as-will-be. hereinafter described, and inter sad between the main cover '14 and supp emental cover 15, is a cover or closure 18 for the aperture .16. 1 The closure 18 is fitted to slide between the covers 14 and 15 to close the box by-covering the aperture 16 as shown in Fig. 1-,- and to open the box by exposing the aperture 16 as shown in Fig. 2.
The main body of the blank comprises the sections 5, 7,8 and 9 corresponding with the front and back walls 5 and 7 .and the side Walls 8 and 9 of the box, respectively. Projecting from the outer vertical edge of the section 7 of the blank-is a flap 19, and projecting downwardly-from the sections 5, 7 8 and 9, from the bottoms thereof, are flaps 20, 21, 22, and 23 respectively, which are adapted to form the-bottom of the box. Projecting upwardly from the sections 5 and 7 are the flap 24 and the .maincover 14 of the-box. The lateral edges of the cover 14 are provided with projecting flaps 26 and 27 by means of which the sides of the cover may be secured in place as willibe hereinafter described. Projecting upwardly from the sections 8 and 9 are the flap 28and the supplemental cover15 of the box. The flap 28 is provided with a cut-out portion 17, adapted to fit a portion of:the wall of the opening 17 when-the fla s 28 and 15 are brought together, as will e hereinafter described. The-shaded indicate the portions t ereof that are pasted or glued to other portions of the blank in forming the box. In formin the box the blank is first folded on the lines 29, 30, 31, and 32, in the usual manner, and the outer or shaded face of the flap 19 is pasted 'to the inner face of section 6. The flaps 24, 25 and 27 are then folded inward upon their respective score lines, whereupon the cover 14 is secured to the flap 24, and the fla s 26 and 27 secured to the inner faces of t e sides 8 and 9 reortions of the blank 16 is now inserted hetween the main cover l4; and the supplemental cover 15, and the are provided with small projecting flaps provide 54 and 55 res ectively, -for a purpose hereinafter descri ed. The outer vertical edge of the section Y0 ofthe blank is provided with a projecting flap56. The he 52 is with an aperture 47, and t e flap 53 with an opening 48.:
In formin the box shown in Figs. 9 to 12 inclusive mm the blank shown-in 8, the blank is first folded on thelines 57, 58, 59 and 60, to brin the front and back walls 69 and 70 paral el to each other, and to bring the side walls 43 and 44 parallel to each other, and also to bring the out-er face of the flap 56 against the outer portion of the inner face of the section 43 against which the outer or shadedface of the flap 56 is asted. The flaps 50, 51, 52 and 54 are old'ed inward on their respective score lines; the ilap 53 secured to the flaps and 51, and the flap 54 secured to the inner face of the side 44 of the box. The i'laps 53 and 55 are now folded down andthe flap 55 secured to the outside of the side 43 of the box. A fiat piece of sheet material 18 forming the cover or closure -for the aperture, is nowinserted between the main and supplemental covers, and the box is complete.
I claim 1. In a box, front and back vertical walls,
- side vertical walls, a bottom, a flap formed integral with one of said verticalwalls and extending to the opposite vertical wall, said flap havin an aperture 'cut in the body thereof an box, means for securing saidilap to said opposite vertical wall, a supplemental cover forming the main cover for the.
nearer arranged above the main cover and formed integral with one of the two remaining vertical walls of the box and connected to the opposite remaining. vertical wall of the box, an
a closure for said aperture inserted bethereto and engaging a vertical wall of the box, a supplemental cover arran ed above I the maincover and formed integra with one of the two remainingvertical walls of the box and connected to the opposite remaining vertical wall of the box, and a closure-for supplemental covers.
3. Ina box, front and back vertical walls side vertical walls, a'bottom, a flap formed integral with one of said' vertical walls and extending to the opposite vertical well, said flap having an aperture. cut in the body thereof and forming the main-cover for the box, IllEI-IlSfOl securin said flap to said 0p-' posite vertical wall, aps formed integral Withthe two remaining vertical walls of the said aperture inserted between "the main and a box and'sec'ured together forminga supplemental cover arranged above the main'cover, and a closure for said aperture inserted between the main and supplemental covers.
