ANDREW a cam m cu FKUTO-LIYNOGRAPNENS, WASHINGTON n mart THOMAS J. LITLE, "JR", OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
MANTLE-SUPPORTING TRANSPORTATION DEVICE.
esaeei.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS J. LITLE, J r., a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a certain new and useful Mantle-Supporting Transportation Device, of which the following is a specification.
Objects of the present invention are to provide for comparatively inexpensively holding a mantle in a carton in such a way that it can be safely transported without danger of becoming detached or of shifting about in the carton, and to provide for easily packing the mantles and their supports in the carton and for safely unpacking and arranging the same for use.
To these and other ends hereinafter set forth, the invention comprises the improvements to be presently described and finally claimed.
The nature, characteristic features and scope of my invention will be more fully understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming part hereof and in which Figure 1, is a View, partly in section, illustrating a mantle supporting transportation device embodying features of the invention. Fig. 2, is a similar view illustrating a mantle supporting transportation device embodying another modification of the invention. Fig. 3, is a perspective view illustrating the device of Fig. 2, detached, and Fig. 4, is a view illustrating the mantle arranged for use.
In the drawings 1, is a carton shown as provided at each end with detachable lids 2.
3, is a mantle or incandescent provided with a loop or bail 4. The device for carrying the mantle is provided with a hook portion for engaging the bail. or loop 4, and with a pair of leg portions for engaging the rim of the carton 1.
As shown in Fig. 1, 5, is the hook portion and 6 and 7, are the pair of leg portions which engage the rim of the carton.
As shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the leg portion 7 is bent into a loop a, between which and the leg portion 7 the rim of the carton may be placed (Fig. 2) and the loop a, by bearing upon the inner curved wall of the carton opposes or prevents undue lateral motion of the hook. The sides 11, of the hook portion lie in the same plane so that Specification of Letters Patent.

when the lid 2, is applied, they both contact with or come so near to it that the loop or bail 4, may not become detached or unhooked. The rim of the lid by engaging one or both of the leg portions tends to hold the support or device in proper position. Where the leg portions 6 and 7 are formed as a bight in the wire or material of the support, as in Fig. 1, they engage between them the wall of the carton.
To use the mantle, the lid may be taken off and the support lifted from engagement with the rim of the carton, carrying with it the mantle. The support can then be applied to any suitable provision intended for its reception. As shown in Fig. 4, such a provision comprises the part or socket 12, which serves to detachably receive the supports. Of course the support may be used only during transportation and the mantle can be transferred to another support for use.
It will be obvious to those skilled in the art to which my invention appertains that modifications may be made in detail without departing from the spirit thereof, hence I do not limit myself to the precise construction and arrangement of parts hereinabove set forth and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, but
Having thus described the nature and objects of my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. The combination of a carton having a lid, and a support provided with a bight engaged by the rim of the lid and constituting a pair of leg portions which stride the carton wall and with a hook portion which holds a mantle loop or bail between its sides and the lid, substantially as described.
2. The combination of a carton, a rigid support having a hook portion for engaging a mantle-bail or loo and having a pair of leg portions whereof one is disposed internally and the other externally of the carton for engaging the wall thereof, substantially as specified.
3. The combination of a cylindrical carton, a rigid support having a hook portion for engaging a mantle bail or loop and having a pair of leg portions whereof one is disposed internally and the other externally of the carton for engaging the cylindrical wall thereof, and a lid of which the rim engages a leg portion of said support, substantially as specified.
4. The combination of a carton, a rigid support having a hook portion for engaging a mantle bail and having a loop which straddles the rim of the carton and whereof one part engages the inner wall of the carton and prevents undue lateral motion of the hook, substantially as specified.
5. The combination of a cylindrical earton, and a wire with a loop at one end there of for clenching the cylindrical wall 'of the carton and with a hook near the other end to accommodate a mantle bail or loop; sub stantially as specified.
6. The combination with a cylindrical carton of a ri id support whereof one end clenches the rim of the carton; and whereof the other end is free and provided with a hook to accommodate a mantle bail or loop, substantially as specified.
7'. The combination with a cylindrical carton, of a rigid support whereof one end clenches the rim of the carton and whereof the other end is braced against the inner wall of the ca'rton and is provided with a hook to accommodate a mantle bail 0r loop, substantially as specified:
In testimony whereof I have hereunto sign'ed my name. 4.
