Description

A. SOHULZ. KEYBOARD FOR KEYED MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS. APPLICATION I I LED APR. 1, 1909- 958186. Patented May 17, 1910.

' Inventor:
ANDREW I:v Guam co. FMOTO-UYHOGRAPHERSWASHINGTON. u c
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALBERT SCHULZ, OF BARMEN, GERMANY.
KEYBOARD FOR KEYED MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT SOHULZ, a subject of the German Emperor, and resident of Barmen, Germany, have invented new and useful Improvements in Keyboards for Keyed Musical Instruments, of which the following is a specification.
Hitherto, in keyboards with a plurality of keys of which the front edges are in a straight line, it has already been proposed to arrange the key-levers in such a way as to diverge from each other backward from their front ends, in order to facilitate the attachment of the rear ends of the key-levers to the mechanism of the instrument. Said diverging arrangement did, however, not include the visible or front portions of the keylevers.
The present invention provides, therefore, an improved keyboard, in which also the visible portions of the keys diverge from each other backward from the key fronts in a symmetrical Way from the middle of the keyboard, so that especially the outer keys at both ends of the keyboard assume an oblique position, which conveniently suits the position of the hands when striking said outer keys.
The accompanying drawing shows a diagram of the improved arrangement, in a plan view.
Line A-B indicates the position of the fulcrums of the key-levers, line C-D the points where the key-levers are attached to Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 1, 1909.
Patented May 17, 1910.
Serial No. 487,171.
the mechanism of the instrument, line EF the straight line of the key fronts, and line GI'I the edge of the name board which conceals the back portions of the keys.
Beside the advantage already mentioned, the improved arrangement makes it possible to spread out the rear ends of the keys without having large bends near the line GI-I.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A piano keyboard comprising a plurality of keys the front edges of which are in a straight line, the visible front portions of said keys diverging from each other backward from the key-fronts in a symmetrical way from the middle of the key-board, for the purpose set forth.
2. A piano keyboard comprising a plurality of keys the front edges of which are in a straight line, the visible front portions of said keys diverging from each other backward from the key-fronts in a symmetrical way from the middle of the keyboard and free from large bends near the junction of the visible and interior parts of the keys, for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ALBERT SCI-IULZ. [11. s] \Vitnesses:
