IMPROVEMENT HEATING-APPARATUS.

The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the ma.

To all whom it may concern Be'it known that I, J OHN ARMSTRONG, J r., of San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco, and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Apparatus for Heating Small Apartments; and- I do hereby declare that the following'is a full and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.

The object of my invention is to provide an improved heating-apparatus for bedrooms and other rooms in dwellings, when but little heat is required to take 011' the chill and dampness, and where no conveniences exist for constructing a fire-place, or erecting a stove or furnace for carrying oil the smoke which is generated by the combustion of the fuel necessary to warm the room. I

The heat necessary for my apparatus is derived from an ordinary oil-lamp, or a small jet of gas, and at the same time the relative position of the lamp or jet to the heater is such that the room is also lighted, and both the heat and light are utilized. I

My invention consists of a round or -otber-shaped apparatus, resting on standards, and surrounding an inner cylinder or box, closed at the top.

An opening is made in the lower head of the drum for the introduction of the heat from the lamp, and the base-plate is peiforated around .the opening.

The outer cylinder is also perforated near the top, as well as the top plate of the apparatus.

Figure 3 is a bottom view.

Arepresents a box or cylinder, which may be constructed of sheet-iron; with top and bottom plates, B B.

The bottom plate has an opening, C, to which an inner cylinder or radiator, D, is attached.

This radiator is closed at the top, and is made flar ing from its base to the crown, so as to contain as large a heating-surface as possible for the dimensions of the apparatus employed.

Both ends of the apparatus are pierced with holes,

Holes, 11 b, are also pierced in the body of the heater near the top. Tbese holes serve as draught-holes.

In utilizing my apparatus, the end of lamp-chimney may be placed a little below the opening C of the lower end plate, and the inner closed cylinder will soon become heated, and radiate the hot .air into the surrounding space, from whence it will pass oil into the room through the perforations at the top and sides of the outer cylinder, and at the same time. the cold air will be constantly drawn up through the perforations in the bottom plate, and pass off as heated air, to warm the room, as-above described.

Having thus described my invention,

What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The apparatus described, consisting of the case A, perforated at top and bottom, as shown, and radiator- D, the whole being supported upon legs, as and for the purpose described.
