Be it known that I, ROBERT F. BERKE- nrLn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kantner, in the county of Somerset, State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Advertisement-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as lwill enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

r1`he invention relates to a holder and more'particularly to the class of advertising holders or receptacles ada ted to recelve advertising matter for istribution, such as toilet paper, barbers paper, programs, time tables or the like.

The primary object of the. invention is the provision of an advertisement holder or receptacle in which the same is provided with one or more transparent faces so that' paper or the like havin ladvertising matter thereon will be disp ayed through the transparent face or faces of the said receptacle as the paper is delivered in single sheets from the holder or receptacle.

Another object of the invention is the provision of an advertisement holder or receptacle which is adapted to receive a package of toilet paper or the like, each sheet of which contains on its front face an advertisement which is adapted to be displayed or visible to a person, and means for automatically feeding the package forwardly within the holder or receptacle so that the sheets of paper ma be readily gripped and removed from t e holder or receptacle and to enable the forward sheet of the package to be brought into position for displaying the advertising matter thereon.

A still further object of the invention is the provision of a holder or receptacle of this character which is simple in construction, thoroughly eiiicient in operation, inexpensive inthe manufacture and that is practically dust-proof and sanitary.

In the drawings, the numeral 10 designates generally the holder which comprises a case having vertical front and rear walls 11 and 12 and vertical side walls 13 and which case has a closed contracted bottom 14 and an open opposite end which latter is closedvby a removable cover or top 15, the latter havin a suitable opening for accommodating a eveled glass panel 1Q the Same detachably mounted in the opening in the cover or top by havin its eveled edges engaging correspondingy beveled edges o f the o ening in the top or cover. Immediately low the glass panel is a card 17 which latter has on its outer face suitable advertising matter which is adapted to be dlsplayed through the glass panel 16 so that the advertising matter is visible to a person from the outside of the casing or holder. Pivoted tothe inner face of the top or cover 15 are retainer members 18 which latter have their free ends slotted to be brought into locked engagement with pins 19 depending from the inner face of the cover or top vso as to properly hold the card 17 and glass panel 16 in proper position in the opening in the cover or top.

Projecting inwardly at the top edge of the side walls 13 and at right angles thereto are short flanges 20 one of which is adapted to be engaged by a recessed block 21 secured to the under face of the cover or top and the other flange adapted to be engaged by a keyoperated latch 22 carried by the cover 0r top so that the latter can be removably secured to the casing or cover.

Contained in the front wall 11 of the cas; ing is a suitable opening having beveled edges to engage correspondingly beveled edgesof a glass panel 23 which latter is held within the said opening by pivotal retainer members 24 which detachably engage pins 25 projecting inwardly from the front wall of the casing, and they being so placed as not to obstruct the advertisement sheets nor bind said sheets along the sides thereof.

Within the casing and projecting at right angles from the side walls 13 are oppositely disposed supportingV ledges 26 which form rests for a package or paper 27 formed of a l plurality of sheets each of which has on its front face advertising matter so that the same will be displayed through the glass panel 23 when the package or paper is contained within the casing.

Within the casing 10 vbelow the supportmg ledges 2 6 and. disposed transversely in said casmg 1s a removable shaft or pin 28 to which is connected a spring member the' same formed of a single strand or wire bent to form a U-shaped yoke 29 and the free ends of the wire are coiled as at 30 about the shaft or pin 28 and have their terminals bearing against the back face of the said casing 10 so as to tension the U-shaped yoke which latter contacts with the rear face of a follower plate 31 which latter is positioned in rear of the package or paper 27 which latter is advanced forwardly in the casing 10 upon the removal of single sheets thereof from the casing. Projecting inwardly from the front wall 11 near its top are a pair of spikes 32 which latter pene-v trate the sheets of paper as the package of paper is fed forwardly toward the front wall 11 of the casing and which spikes serve to prevent the individual sheets of paper of the package from binding against the front of the casing and also accidentally falling from or out of the casing. The said follower plate 31 contains in opposite faces near opposite edges thereof transverse grooves 33 to permit the spikes to engage the sheets of paper in a proper manner until all of the sheets have been delivered from the casing.

To permit the delivery of sheets of paper from the package 27 exteriorly of the casing 10 there is provided in the front wall 1Q a cutaway portion forming an opening 34 which latter intersects a slot contained in the contracted bottom 14 at the pointwhere it meets the lower edge of the front wall of the casing.

It will be seen that when the lower front edge of the package of paper 27 is'grasped by the linger or thumb through the opening 34 and pulled downwardly to withdraw a sheet the package of paper will be forced more tightly against the front wall 11 of the casing and as each sheet is delivered from the latter the package of paper is automatically fed forward in said casing upon the advancement of the follower plate through the medium of the tension member and in this manner the advertising matter on each sheet of paper is displayed or visible through the glass panel 23 prior to its removal from the casing.

Itis to be understood that the sheets of the package of paper 27 contain advertising matter different from each other so that as the sheets are successively delivered from the casing various reading matter willbe displayed through the glass panel of the casing.

What is claimed is- 1. A holderjof the class described comprising a casing having a transparent front and adapted to receive a package of paper containing advertising matter on each sheet thereof, supporting ledges projecting inwardly from opposite sides of the casing, a follower plate slidably mounted upon said ledges, said casing containing a delivery slot below said transparent front and in advance of the ledges, means within the casing to automatically feed forward the follower plate for advancing the Sheets of the package of paper in the path of the slot and also -for making visible the advertising matter upon the discharge of individual sheets through the slot, and spurs projecting inwardly from the front of the casing and adapted to engage the forward lsheet of a package of paper to suspend said sheet and to prevent its accidental discharge through the slot.

In a holder of the class described, the combination with a plurality of sheets of paper having printed matter on each of the same, a casing receiving said sheets of paper and having a delivery slot therein at its front, a transparent panel mounted at the lfront of the casing to make visible theadvertising matter upon the forward sheet of paper within the casing, supporting ledges within said casing for the paper and terminating at their forward ends in rear of the slot7 a follower plate slidable upon said ledges and arranged in rear of the sheets of paper, a spring yoke member acting upon the follower plate to advance the same, and pointed spurs projecting inwardly from the front of the casing and adapted to penetrate the forward sheets of paper when in the path of the delivery slot to prevent 10 their accidental discharge through the latter. v
