Be it known that I,'PE'IER KREUsoHER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Canova, in the county of Miner, State of South Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fly-Guards; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to fly guard attachments for doors, more particularly to devices of this character arranged to be operated in connection with screen doors, and has for one of its objects to simplify and improve the construction and increase the efiiciency and utility of devices of this character.
Another object of the invention is to provide a simply constructed device which will be actuated by the opening and closing of the door and without requiring separate operating devices connected either to the door or to the guard.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in a frame of wire swingingly connected to a door frame above the doorway opening and provided with a brace element depending into the path of the door so that the brace element will be engaged by the door when opened and the guard element thereby actuated.
The invention further consists in certain novel features of construction as hereafter shown and described and then specifically pointed out in the claims, and in the drawings illustrative of the preferred embodiment of the invention, Figure 1 is a view of the upper portion of a door frame and a portion of a screen door swingingly connected thereto with the improved guard device attached and in its downward or inop erative position. Fig. 2 is a similar view with the door in open position. Fig. 3 is an edge view of the frame of the guard detached and without the covering fabric. Fig. 4 is a top view of the frame.
The improved device may be applied without material structural changes to door frames of various sizes and is operative by doors of various forms, but for the purpose of illustration is shown applied to a conventional door frame and arranged to be operated by a conventional screen door, the door frame indicated at 10 and the screen door at Specification of Letters Patent.

11 hingedly connected to the door frame The improved device comprises a frame formed of wire, preferably from a single piece of wire, and comprises a-base portion 13 adapted tobe swingingly coupled to the door frame 10 above the doorway opening by loops or staples 14. At one end the base portion 1?) is partly looped beyond one of the end staples, as shown at 15, and with the other end extended at right angles to the base portion, as shown at 16, and thence extended in a curved line at 17 and looped around the base portion at 18 near the bent portion 15, and thence again looped around the base portion 18 at 19 and thence extended diagonally at 20 to the rightangled portion 16 near its juncture with the curved portion 17 and looped around the same at 21. The inter mediate portion of the diagonal member 20 is extended downwardly below the lower surface of the remaining members of the frame, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. The staples 14 will be so located relative to the upper edge of the door 11 that when the door is opened it will engage by its upper edge with the depending portion of the diagonal member 20 and thus elevate the frame into a position at right angles to the door frame, as shown in Fig. 2, and hang vertically as will be obvious when the door is closed. By this means when the door is opened the frame will be projected into horizontal position and remain in this position so long as the door is open. The wire guard frame is thus formed entirely of a single piece of wire, and will be of sufficient strength to resist the strains to which it will be subjected. The guard frame is covered with a suitable fabric, preferably of mosquito netting, represented at 22, and will likewise be provided around the free edges formed by the members 16-17 with a depending fringe 23 formed of spaced tassel like members or of other suitable form. By this simple means it will be obvious that the first action of the door when being opened will move the guard frame withits fabric covering and fringe outwardly and thus cause any fly or any other insect which may have lighted thereon to leave the frame and the continued upward movement will prevent them from again lighting upon the frame and entering the doorway opening. The guard frame thus serves as a brush to drive the flies and other insects from the vicinity of the screen and the doorway opening, and will effectually prevent them from entering during the opening of the door. During the closing of the door the guard frame follows it downwardly and assumes its former position.
The improved device is simple in construction, can be inexpensively manufactured, and applied as above stated, to door frames of various sizes and forms.
Any other fabric than mosquito netting may be employed upon the frame.

1. The combination with a door frame, a door hinged to the frame, a guard frame formed from a single piece of wire and comprising a base portion hingedly united to the door frame, a portion extending at right angles from one end of the base portion, a segmental portion extending between the free end of the right angled portion and the other end of the base portion, a diagonal brace portion coiled at its ends around the base portion and the right angled portion and depending into the path of the door, and a fabric covering for the guard frame.
2. A guard frame of the class described formed from a single piece of wire and c0mprising a base portion adapted to be attached to the door frame, a portion extending at right angles from one end of the base portion, a segmental portion extending between the free end of the right angled portion and the other end of the base portion, a diagonal brace portion coiled at its ends around the base portion and the right angled portion and adapted to be engaged by a door when the door is opened.
3. The combination with a door frame, of a door hinged to the frame, a guard frame comprising a base portion and a portion extending at right angles from one end of the base portion, and a segmental portion uniting the terminals of the base portion and the right angled portion, means for hingedly uniting said base portion tosaid door frame, a diagonal brace connected at its ends to said right angled portion and said base portion and depending into the path of the door, and a fabric covering for the guard frame.
