To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH L. PARK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sacramento, in the county of Sacramento and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stove- Burners, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to improvements in oil burners and more particularly to one especially adapted for use in fire boxes of cooking stoves.
The object of the invention is to improve and simplify the construction and operation of stove burners of this character and thereby render the same more efficient.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists of the novel features of construction and the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved stove burner; Fig. 2 is a side elevation with parts in section; and Figs. 3 and 4: are vertical transverse sectional views, on the lines 33, 1s respectively of Fig. 2.
In the drawings 1 denotes a base plate or pan adapted to be arranged horizontally in the fire box of a cooking stove or the like, the fire box being indicated in dotted lines at B. As illustrated, said pan 1 is of rectan gular shape and has a surrounding upstanding rim 2. In the central portion of the pan or tray is a circular depression 3 formed on its top with a concentrically arranged coneshaped spreading member at which is formed with concentric annular ribs and has a centrally arranged opening to receive an oil supply pipe 5. The depression 3 is adapted to receive a small quantity of oil which is ignited to start the burner, as presently explained, and the rim or flange 2 is adapted to prevent oil from running off of the plate and down into the bottom portion of the fire box of the stove should the depression or cavity 3 be accidentally overflowed.

' tral portion of the pipe being provided upon its bottom with an air outlet opening 8 disposed above the oil inlet pipe 5. The air tube 7 is preferably formed in two similar cast metal half-sections which are united by providing rivets, bolts or similar fastenings 9 in registering notches formed in integral lugs or cars 10, as clearly shown in Figs. 2 and 4 of the drawings. Extending through the air tube 7 is a similarly shaped oil pipe 11, the ends of which extend downwardly through the openings 6 and one end of which is connected by a horizontal branch 12 to the lower end of the pipe 5. A controlling valve 18 is arranged in the branch 12, as shown. The other end of the pipe 11 is connected to a horizontal branch pipe 14 which extends outside of the stove and has arranged within it a steam injector tube 15 communicating with a steam pipe 16 containing a controlling valve 17 and a check valve 16, the latter being adapted to prevent the oil and water from mixing. The pipe 1 1 has also connected to it at its junction with the steam pipe 16 an oil supply pipe 1.8 which contains a controlling or cut off valve 19.
The pipe 16 is supplied with steam from a double coil of pipes arranged above the pan or tray 1 and on opposite sides of the air tube 7. One of these coils 20 has its inlet end 21 extending outside of the stove and connected to a cold water supply pipe 22 containing a controlling valve 23; and the other end of said coil 20 is connected to a horizontal pipe 21 which in turn connects it to one end of the other coil 25, which latter is used as a superheater and has its other end connected by a pipe 26 to a drain valve 27, and which 18 in turn connected to the steam valve 17, as shown more clearly in Fig. 1. Each of the coils 20, 25 is composed of a series of parallel pipes connected at their ends, but it will be understood that they may be of other form and construction.
For the purpose of permitting hot water to be taken from the coil, a branch pipe 28 is provided and has one of its ends within the fire box in communication with the connecting pipe 24. Its end outside of the stove contains a controlling or cut off valve 29 and also a downturned outlet connection 30, as shown more clearly in Fig. 2.
In using the invention, when itis desired to start the burner, the valves 19 and 13 are opened to permit a small quantity of oil to enter the cavity or recess 3 in the pan or plate 1. This oil is then ignited and in burning heats the coils 20, 25 and converts the water therein into steam which is then discharged, upon the opening of the valve 17, through the injector tube 15 so that steam and oil will be discharged from the pipe 5 and burned beneath the tube 7 and around the coils 20, 25. Said tube supplies the flame with heated air through the opening 8, thereby increasing the effectiveness of the burner.
It will be understood that the base pan 1 is fitted in the fire box so that the only passage for the drafts through the stove is through the pipe 7 and it will also be understood that the valve 18 is adjusted to regulate the force of the mixture of oil and steam passing outof the pipe 5.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed is:
1. In a burner, the combination of a base pan having openings adjacent to its ends, an oil cavity in its central portion, an oil supply pipe communicating with said cavity, an air tube of inverted U-form arranged over the pan and having its depending ends in communication with the openings in said pan, the bottom of the intermediate portion of said air tube being formed with a discharge opening and an oil pipe extending through said air tube and connected to the first mentioned oil pipe.
2. I11 a burner, the combination of a base pan having openings adjacent to its ends, an oil cavity in its central portion, an oil supply pipe communicating with said cavity, an air tube of inverted U-form arranged over the pan and having its depending ends in communication with the openings in said pan, the bottom of the intermediate portion of said air tube being formed with a dischar 'e opening, an oil pipe extending through said air tube and having a valve controlled connection with the first mentioned oil pipe,
formed with a discharge injector connected to said steam pipe and arranged in the last mentioned oil pipe.
4. In a burner, the combination of a base pan having openings adjacent to its ends, an oil cavity in its central portion, an oil supply pipe communicating with said cavity, an air tube of inverted U-form arranged over the pan and having its depending ends in communication with the openings in said pan, the bottom of the intermediate portion of said air tube being formed with a discharge opening, a water coil arranged on one side of the air tube above said pan, a steam coil arranged on the other side of said tube above the pan, :1 connecting pipe between said coils, a valve controlled cold water pipe con nected to said water coil, a valve controlled steam pipe leading from said steam coil, an oil pipe extending through said air tube, a valve connection between one end of the last mentioned pipe and the first mentioned oil pipe, and a steam injector in the last mentioned pipe and connected to said steam pipe.
