SIPHON CLOSET. APPLICATION FILED JULY 7,1909

CHRISTIAN H. CHRISTENSEN, OF PALO ALTO, CALIFORNIA, ASSIGNOR OF FORTY-FIVE ONE-HUNDREDTHS T D. I1. SLOAN, OF PALO ALTO, CALIFORNIA.
SIPI-ION-CLOSET.
7 To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN H. CHRIS- TENSEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Palo Alto, in the county of Santa Clara and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Siphon-Closets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to closets, and has special reference to that class known as flushing closets.
An object of this invention is to produce a siphon to be applied to a bowl which is more effective and forceful than apparatus of this nature heretofore constructed.
Another object of this invention is to construct a bowl which is secured to the wall by a bracket and which leaves a clear passage therebeneath to prevent the accumulation of dust and the like so as to produce a sanitary closet.
The invention has for a further object the provision of a closet which can be applied to buildings quickly and economically owing to the few parts which constitute the device and the simplicity in the construction of the same.
A still further object of this invention is the novel means utilized in allowing the escape of sewer gas and the like by constructing a vent in communication with the stack or soil pipe. I
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description and it will be understood that changes in the specific structure shown and described may be made within the scope of the claims without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings forming a portion of this specification, and in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, Figure 1 is a front elevation of the device as applied to a wall, Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same.
Referring to the drawings, 10 designates a bowl of the usual contour which is formed of cast metal or any other suitable substance which is supported from a wall 11 by a bracket 12 which is preferably integrally formed with the bowl 10, and extends under the bottom of the latter and through the floor. The solid bracket 12 may be of any suitable construction and is provided with oppositely located flanges 13 which are aper- Specification of Letters Patent.

tured to receive suitable bolts or screws 1% which are engaged in the wall 11 to support the bracket 12.
The flushing rim 15 is provided with a connection 17 for communication with a suitable water supply.
The neck 19 extends from the bowl 10 a short distance where it terminates and is provided with a flange 20 which is apertured to receive bolts 21. The long arm 22 of the siphon is positioned in the wall 11 and extends outwardly and upwardly therefrom at a point a short distance above the bracket 12 where it is flanged as at 23 to receive the ends of the bolts 21 to connect the neck 19 to the long arm 22, the bracket being cut away adjacent to the wall for clearing the union thus formed. The lower extremity of the arm 22 is formed into a by-pass 26 which is connected with a vent pipe 27 located to one side of the arm 22, and which pipe 27 extends upwardly therefrom for the escapement of sewer gases.
The neck 19 is disposed at an angle for the purpose of more effectually inducing a stronger siphonic action as the water therein acts as a part of the long arm 22 and increases the suction through the short arm 18.
What is claimed is 1. A device of the character described, the combination with a bowl, of a solid bracket integrally formed with the bottom of the bowl, and oppositely located flanges forming a part of said web for engagement with a wall to support the said bowl above the floor, said bracket having a cut-away portion, as and for the purpose described.
2. A siphon closet comprising a bowl, a solid bracket positioned beneath said bowl for supporting said bowl from a wall above a floor, a short arm of a siphon formed in said bowl, an inclined flanged neck extending rearwardly and downwardly from the upper extremity of said short arm and a long arm positioned in a wall curved forwardly and flanged at the upper end thereof for connection with said neck, said bracket having a rear cut-away portion for receiv ing the flanged portion of the neck.
3. A device of the character described, the combination with a bowl, of a solid bracket integrally cast with the bottom of the bowl, oppositely located flanges forming a part of said bracket for engagement with a wall to support said bowl above the floor,
said bracket having a rear cut-away portion, the bottom of which bracket is adapted to extend through the floor whereby the bowl is supported a suitable distance above said floor, and a suitable siphon connection at the upper portion of the bowl with a discharge pipe.
