Be it known that I, OSCAR lVooDwARD, States, and resident of of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvement-s in 'Iype-VVriting` Machines, of which the following is a specichines and more particularly to-carriage feed mechanism, and the main obiect of saidv 1nventi'on is to provide simple and efficient mechanism of the character specified.
To the above and other ends which will hereinafter appear, my invention consists of the features of construction, arrangements of parts and combinations of de Yices to -b'e setforth in the following specification and particularly Apointed out in the .appended claims. V

A universal bar A comprises a strip 31 of leather or some such suitable material received in a sheet metal container or bar 31a substantially U -shaped in cross-section.
Theleather strip is secured in the container' by shouldered rivets 31" which pass through the path of the dotted line a in Fig. 1 and to impact. against the front face of a cylindrical t ds ' openings in the sides of the Vcontainer and in the leather stripv and the shoulder on each rivet bears against the inner face of one .of the sides of the container. The means also aord an individual adjustment of the universal bar at opposite ends thereof.
