BLANK FOR COVERING SHOULDERED-NECK BOXES.
Specification of Letters Patent.

Patented May 3, 1910.
Renewed September 15, 1909. Serial No. 517,915.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN l?. MARKERT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Blank for Covering Shouldered- Neck Boxes, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to blanks for covering shouldered-neck boxes, the object of the invention being to provide a one-piece cover capable of being readily applied, to the shouldered-neck candy or confectionery box now in common use, avoiding the necessity of applying the usual covering to such box in sections or dierent pieces, at the same time saving a large percentage of the time now lost in covering such boxes in the old way and also producing a neatly covered ornamental box which in appearance is greatly superior to the box now covered in the ordinary way.
To the above end, the invention consists in a blank for covering shoulderedneck boxes embodying certain novel features and details hereinafter particularly described, illustrated and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings Figure l is a perspective view, showing one of the covering blanks and also showing a shouldered-neck box suspended above the cover. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the box to which the cover has been applied.
Referring to the drawings, I have shown therein an ordinary shouldered-neck box for candy and confectionery embodying the bottom l, sides 2, neck 3 and shoulder 4, it being understood that the neck 3 is adapted to be received in the usual lid or top of the box, the latter being flanged to fit over the neck 3 and rest against the shoulder 4. This top or lid is not illustrated, the same and its relation to the box properl being well-known and understood by those skilled in the art to which this invention appertains.
The box covering comprises a body 5 which corresponds in shape and dimensions to the bottom of the box. The covering also comprises the flapped portions 6 and 7 which are adapted to cover the sides of the box, said fiapped portions 6 and 7 being provided with extensions 8 and 9 respectively adapted to be turned over the top edge of the box after the side or apped portions 6 and 7 have been caused to adhere to the sides of the box.
The flapped portions or side sections 6 are provided with longitudinal fold lines 10 adapting them to be folded over the shoulder 4 of the box and it will be noted by reference to Fig. l that that portion of the flap 6 which lies below the shoulder 4 is made of greater length than the portion or extension of the flap which lies above the shoulder 4, the two portions of the flap corresponding in dimensions with the dimensions of the side of the box above and beneath the shoulder 4. Both of such portions are also provided at their opposite ends with corner flaps or end tabs l1 and 12 adapted to be folded around the corners of the box above and below the shoulder 4. rlhe other flaps 7 may be formed in the same manner as the flap 6 but this is not ordinarily necessary, the flaps 7 being shown of uniform width or horizontal dimensions, being adapted to adhere closely to the corresponding sides of the box and to lap over and cover and conceal the corner flaps 11 and 12.
While I have illustrated a four-sided box in the accompanying drawings, it will, of course, be understood that the covering is applicable to a box of any number of sides, the cover, of course, being provided with a corresponding number of flap portions, such portions being cut in the manner described and shown so as to make provision for coverino' the neck and shoulder of the box.
The form of cut out at the shoulder section of the cover or wrapper may be varied without losing any of the advantages of the invention.
I claim A covering blank for a shouldered neck box comprising a body portion substantially of the shape of the box bottom, flap portions adapted to cover the box sides from the bottom up to the shoulder, and flap extensions adapted to cover the neck from the shoulder upward.
In testimony whereof I aix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN l?. MARKERT.
