SMOKE-BELL SUPPORT.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, I'IARVEY F. MECHLING, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Smoke-Bell Supports, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

This invention relates to a smoke bell support for chandeliers and similar gas fixtures, and the invention has for its primary object to provide a simple and durable support that can be easily and quickly connected to the hanger pipe of a chandelier for supporting smoke bells above the burners or jets thereof.

Another object of the invention is to provide a smoke bell support from which one or more smoke bells can be safely suspended.

These and such other objects as will hereinafter appear are attained by a two-part support having one or more supporting brackets disposed to radially retain hanger arms in position for smoke bells.

The invention will be hereinafter considered in detail and then claimed, and reference will now be had to the drawing forming part of this specification, wherein there are illustrated the preferred embodiments of my invention, but it is to be understood that the structural elements thereof can be varied or changed, as to the shape, size and manner of assemblage without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of a chandelier provided with a two-arm support, Fig. 2 is a plan of a one-arm support, Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the same, Fig. 4 is a planof the two-arm support, Fig. 5 is a side elevation of the same, Fig. 6 is a plan of a three-arm support partly broken away and partly in section, Fig. 7 is a plan of a four-arm support and Fig. 8 is a perspective view of a one-arm support showing the members thereof separated.

In a two-arm support, the member 1 is provided with an additional laterally-extending angular bracket 15 disposed opposite the bracket 8; in a three-arm support, the member 1 has the bracket 8 thereof dis posed approximately intermediate the ends of said member, while the member 2 is provided with laterallyextending

16 and 17, the bracket 17 being located at one end of the member 2 and the bracket 16 adjacent to the opposite end of said member, whereby when said members are connected together, said brackets will be equally spaced one hundred twenty degreesa art.

The our-armed support shown in Fig. 7 has the members thereof each provided with two brackets, the bracket 18 of the member 1 being approximately opposite the bracket 19 of the member 2 and the bracket 20 of 'the member 2 approximately opposite the bracket 21 of the member 1, thereby providing four equally spaced brackets adapted to support four equally spaced and radially disposed arms.

From the foregoing description taken in connection with the drawings, it will be observed that the arms 11 serve functionally as clamps for holding the support in position upon the pipe 7, and the smoke bells 13 at a proper elevation relative to the burners or jets of the chandelier, the members of each support are easily and quickly assembled and can be held in engagement with pipes of various diameters.

The supports are made of light and durable metal, and can be finished to harmonize with the appearance of the chandelier in connection with which they are used. I reserve the right to make the supports rectangular or of any desired shape to conform to the hanger pipe of a chandelier.

Having now described my invention, what I claim as new, is

1. A smoke bell support, comprising members provided with lateral brackets, and a plurality of smoke bell supporting arms extending through said brackets and connecting with said members, certain of said arms connecting the ends of said members together.

2. A smoke bell support comprising members, brackets carried by each member, and bell supporting arms extending through said brackets into said members, certain of said arms connecting the ends of said members together.

3. In a smoke bell support, the combination with the hanger pipe of a chandelier, of members adapted to embrace said pipe,

brackets carried by said members, and smoke bell supporting arms extending through said brackets and adjustably connect with said members for holding said members fixed relative to said pipe.

4. A smoke bell support comprising a pair of supporting members having the ends thereof overlapping, a laterally-extending angular bracket formed integral of one of said members, and a supporting arm extending through the angular end of said bracket and engaging in one of said members.

5. In a smoke bell support, a cylindrical supporting member formed of two sections, one of said sections provided with a laterally-extending angular-shaped bracket, and means for connecting the ends of the sections together, said member and bracket constituting means for supporting a bell supporting arm.
