Description

anatema parte awa,
JAMES sKUDER AND WILLOUGHBY sEIPLE, or T1FriN, poH1o.
Letters Patent N 95,592, dated October 5, 1869.
IMPROVED SABE-HOLDER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be itknown that we., JAL/ins S. KUDER and W1 L LOUGHBY SEIPLE, of Tiiimin the county of Seneca, and in the State of Ohio, have \invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sash-Stops; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clearaud exact description thereof, reference 'being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon. I
The nature of our invention consistsV in theconstruction and arrangement of 'a sash stop or holder,
as will be hereinafter fully setforth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which Aour invention appertains to make and use the sat'ne, we will now proceed to describe, its construction and operation, referring to the annexed' drawings, which form a part ot' this specification, and in Which-,-
Figure l is a perspective of a window-sash. with our sash-stops attached;
Figure 2 is a horizontal section, showing the stopV which operates the upper window-sash;
Figure 4 is a vertical section, showing the samestop; and
Figure i5 is anedge view of the sash.
A represents the window-frame, B,the upper, and B', the lower sash, all constructed in any of the know-n and usual ways.
One edge of both the sashes B and B is provided ,with a metal strip, C, perforated with a series of round holes, as seen in iig. 5, the edge of the sash beingv mortised or cut out under the* strip C.
At a suitable point in the frame Ais pivoted av toothed wheel, D, which works in the strip -on the upper sash B, and may be held stationary, so as not -to revolve, by` means of anarm, E, the outer end of which is held down by a spring, F, between the teeth of the wheel D. .Y
The inner end of the arm E is secured to a shaft, G, which has its bearings in the window-frame, and
one end of which "projects out beyond the frame.
This end ofthe shaft is 'provided' with a thumb-v pece, H, upon pressing on which the outer end of the arrri E is raised up out of the teeth of the wheelD, so that the sash Bean ,be raised or lowered at will.
As soon as vthe pressure is removed from the-thuinh piece H, the spring F presses the arm E down again,
and holds the sash at any. point desired.
i The` wheel D, with the arm E, spring F, and shaft G, are all fixed in place on a metal plate or box, so as .tobe readily inserted in the window-frame, and to present a neat and tasteful appearance.
The lower sash B I nay bev provided with the same or sor-ne other kind of holder, as may be desired.
Having` thus fully described our invention,
What we claim as new, and desire to secure by LettersPatent, isl v The combination of the toothed wheel D, and perforated strip O, arm E, springr F, shaft G, and thumbpiece H, or their equivalents,fall substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony'that we claim the Ibregoing, we have hereunto set our hands, this 3d day .of April, 1869.
