WILLIAM BARCY, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN, ASSIG-NOR TO BARCY-NICHOLSON COMPANY ,l
OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN, A CORPORATION.
ELECTRIC TERMINAL CLIP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 19, '1910.
Application led November 8, 1909. Serial No. 526,762.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM BARCY, a
' citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, county ofWayne, State of Michi an,
enablel others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, ref- 'erence being had to the accompanyin drawings, which form a part of thls speci cation. rlThis invention relates to terminal clips for spark plugs, and has for its objectan improved device of this type, which, while capable of easy attachment and detachment by the intentionally manual pull of the user, is not easily detached from the stem of the plug by the accidental and unintended jarring due to road conditions, or the accidental striking therea ainst. y Inthe drawings z-igure 1, is an elevation of the clip attached to the spark plug. Fig. 2, is a plan view of the cli slightly removed from its interlocking osition with respect to the collar on the p ug. Fig. 3, is a perspective of the clip alone. FigJi,
. is a central sectional elevation of the engaging portion of the clip and the collar vand stem ofthe plug.
1 indicates the spark plug, whosestem 2 extends in theusual manner above its porcelain center portion. Immediately thereabove is a spacin nut 3, on 4which rests the collar 4, provide with a flanged neck portion 5, which is centrally aperturedf" for the engagement of the stem 2 therethrough. The collar also has several radial indentations 6, the diametrical pairs of which areadaptedl to register lWith correspondin in.-
dentations 7 1n the jaw portion 8 o the clip member 9.` The cutaway jaw portion n 8, 1s just of suiiidient'size to'engage resiliently about theflanged collar member 5 of that it engages with considerable rictional firmness about the flanged part 5, but not suiicient to overcome the dis lacing effect of jarrin When, however, t e clip member .9 is orced as farover the collar member 4 as possible, so as to cause its indentations 7 to en age in the corresponding indentations 6 1n the collar, an interlocking of the parts is produced, which, on the one hand, is along the plane df the clipv and collar members, and on the other is` parallel to the axis of the stem, that is, perpendicular to its first line of engagement. This, while suiiicientto guard against unintended disengagement of the clip from the plug, is
easily detachable by a sharp manual pull. The collar 'is held in Aplace on the stem 2 by the usual cap nut 10.
What I claim is l. An electric terminal clip, comprising a plurality of correspondingly indented parts,-
throu h the flangedcentral portion of one of which the stem of aspark plugI is adapted to`pass, and the other of which is adapted to removably engage about the anged cen? tral portion of the first named member, and to resiliently interlock with the correspond ingly indented portions thereof, substantially as described.
2. In combination with an indented collar member, having a center portion extending above the plane of the indented Lbody portion, a clip member having tip portions .ada ted to engage about said center portion of t e collar member, said tip portions being so indented as to be capable of resilient interlocking withsaid collar member when in their intended position with respect thereto, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof, I sign this .specifi cation in' thepresence of two witnesses.
' WILLIAM BARCY. Witnesses:
CHARLES A. BRAY, SAMUEL J. NIc'HoLsoN.
